I would go for it this time, 50m is fine. Just fuck the scousers. Worth it.

£50m is certainly not fine for a defender with one year left on his contract.

After Liverpool’s glowing display of sportsmanship and restraint, it only makes sense they’ll now gallantly bow out and let us have him. I mean, why stop short of sainthood now, right? Sure, the poor guy might be utterly crushed missing out on this dream move, but at least he’ll always treasure the deep, spiritually enriching bond he now shares with the fine folks at Anfield. Truly, a once-in-a-lifetime connection.

So the Elanga info turned out to be accurate. At the time I was told that he’s been consistently in the top 3 RW targets for the last 2 years.

Same source also told me last week that we absolutely still want Guehi but were waiting to make a final decision once Palace’s European fate had been decided, as that could affect prices etc. Same person also said that Scalvini is also absolutely on the list but Guehi still our 1st choice as there’s a feeling we can get him for the £40m mark if we play our cards right.

Same source also seriously doubted the credibility of the Ekitike link and told me a few stories about how Romano is used as a (potentially paid) pawn by clubs/agents to break stories to suit whatever agenda they want out there.

As always, just passing on little tidbits. I have NO CONTROL of whether these things actually happen 😁

Gobshite of the year?

j/k, your info is really appreciated. If we sign Guehi that more than salvages the window but I don’t see how Parish will be anything other than a pain in the arse.

Would be an interesting time to make the move like, forcing Liverpool to pay now rather than get him for free in a year would be spiteful but could also be something that factors into the Isak issue.

From Guehi’s POV though you’d assume he’ll just wait a year and get a massive signing bonus and higher wages.

£50m sounds steep on paper for a player with just a year left on his deal.  But if we’re serious about building a top-four defence and Guehi is the profile the club want - quick, composed, Premier League-proven, homegrown, strong in a high line - then waiting 12 months because it looks like better value is a risky move.  In 12 months, there’ll be a scramble for him. The “cartel” clubs will come in with bigger wages, Champions League football, and he walks for free. We don’t win those battles.

We’ve seen how good recruitment has put us ahead of schedule. If Guehi is the first-choice target and open to signing, why roll the dice on a second or third-choice alternative now just because they’re “better value on paper”?  He’s 24, fills a need, and gives us 6-8 years of service. That’s worth the premium, and it’s still cheaper than overpaying in wages and agent fees next year.

Only works if Guehi wants to come mind. Expect he will just sit it out at palace personally.

Konate will go next summer and I think VVD is pretty much finished tbh.

Fully understand some of the reaction after the way things went last summer with him and the way things have been this summer.

But look back at the first few pages of this thread, and how excited people were.

He’s still the same, very good, player.
