Funnily enough should have had an assist last night when he played in Osula shortly after his first goal, and he got a good strike in with his left that was saved, and he really should have scored when he was put through on goal too.

Even when he's just had an okay showing he is still a big threat to make something happen.

Going to be a big asset for the team over the season.

murphy still number 1 on the right for now.

a couple of times yesterday where it was crying out for a first time perfect cross from murphy.

That's Murphy's thing because he can't really take defenders on and beat them to the byline.

Elanga on the other hand, is very good at doing that and should play his own game. He's created loads of chances this season doing just that. He'll be fine.

Would have had another assist as well if Gordon could shoot.

One thing I like about him is he spots the pass really early, and he slid in a perfect pass into someone's path early on, not sure if it's the one you are talking about, but he will make goals if we have strikers with the right movement. Ironically Isak would have loved that sort of service.

Still seen nothing to change my original opinion that he is a fairly average player but with explosive pace.

He'll score the odd goal or get an assist here and there but it's going to take some impressive Howe magic to make him a game changer or even to become an improvement on Murphy.

I feel at the moment like we got the worst of the £50m+ right wingers that all moved this summer but time will tell I suppose. Was expecting to see more from him against lower League opposition last night than we did.

I don't agree, become an improvement on murphy is laughable. He played plenty of chances to players and they were missed against barca Murphy hit one good cross that was finished.

That's not on Elanga.

He's been brilliant in some games (Villa, Barca) and awful in others (Leeds, Bradford) so an inconsistent start

However I've seen enough to know he'll be mint, just got to be patient with him

Awful is harsh especially the Bradford game he was canny.

Can't believe a new signing who's not had a proper run of games together hasn't hit top form.

He'll be class man. Relax.

Fuck that. Just label him shite and write him off after 5 games. Thats the knacker brigade way!!!

Happened with Gordon and Tonali and its happening again. I have faith in the knacker brigade!:indi:

Yeah, I was about to say Gordon didn't have the best first few months before putting it all together the next season.

Already seen plenty from Elanga - was superb against Barca for one - to think that it's just a matter of playing and training regularly to improve his consistency.

I think there's also maybe something to be said for the whole forward line needing time to get used to Woltemade instead of a more traditional striker too, which will come.

More wondering when Gordon and Barnes will hit form than wondering about Elanga.

I want to see us play a narrow 4-3-3 in possession and see what he is like. Get him and Gordon close to Woltemade as well as Bruno and Joelinton and have Hall and Tino provide the width with Tonali doing his usualy box to box role and covering defensively in transitions. That way we can see some of that intricate play that we have seen at times and try and get the wingers running beyond in between centre back and full back.

My feeling on Elanga is that he’ll come into his own when other parts of our attacking set up improve. Gordon is better technically at cutting in, once Gordon’s back to playing LW consistently and in form then teams will have to potentially double up on him. When Wolt is fully integrated he’s going to be a menace at drawing players to him and then releasing it to us in space. When Ramsey’s in the side then he’ll also unlock defences. Elanga’s game is built on pace rather than technique so he just needs space to run into. That space will open up when other areas of our attack are terrorising teams.

I do think that Elanga and Wissa are made for each other if Elanga can beat his man and cut it back.

The main issue is integrating everyone effectively

Don’t think it’s fair to assess how Elanga is settling in until the 2nd half of the season. Some players may hit the ground running but that probably means the adaption to our style of play was a little easier for them.
He looks ok to me so far. He has a superior physical advantage over practically everyone and that will always make defenders cautious. Over time I’m sure we’ll see him use the ball better given defenders are likely to stand a yard or so further off him so they don’t get burned.

He has a great attitude and he’s in a great environment.
It’s great he’s got competition from the incumbent Murphy too, gives him a bar to beat and also relieves some pressure.

Good post.

I've noticed Joelinton crashing the box more this season than usual, and I think Howe alluded to the fact that he needs to do more offensively. I think that's because Ramsey will bring exactly that, especially with Woltemade's cuteness around the box.

I don't know if that makes sense to anyone but me. I'm shattered from nightshift.

No - it makes perfect sense.  I’ve noticed the same. Our shape out of possession is slightly different too now. We seem to leave someone closer to Wolt than we would have previously when the last bloke played for us. Can’t remember his name.

Needs to start games constantly for a good while to find his feet here properly, don't think this interchange between him and Murphy between one game and another is doing him any favours
