Arguably our best player in that half  ?

I don’t think so at all, but it’s ok to see it differently. For me he was poor in general play, decent in the final third.

Hes going to be good but at times hes not burning people for pace or hes lacking the control to keep the ball in. Maybe I am being harsh there he can certainly cross a ball and hugs the line more than Gordon or Barnes does.

Hopefully its just a mixture of the side still being in transition and him needing more time to settle in.

Well no player has everything, but he’s got more than enough for me. Made a difference tonight.

That’s fair, but I thought he had the fullback panicking every time he got on the ball for the entire half. Sure, not every move came off perfectly but he was always threat. Some great deliveries into the box.

Agreed.

Thought both him and Gordon were very good.

Their relentless direct runs with and without the ball opened things up centrally for Woltemade to work his magic.

Both were also involved in really good play to create chances and both forced the two penalties we scored from.

Looking forward to more from this front three.

Brought a much more balanced feel to the team's attack.

Thought Gordon was class like but saw others saying he'd returned back to being shite

Gordon was superb tonight even without the goals. He did a lot of good work inside when he dropped deeper as well, people are only looking at his wing play.

As for Elanga, he did run the ball out of play a couple of times, but he also scared the living daylights out of them. Got us the pen for the opening goal as well.

They both never hide and are just non stop determined runners, and it just opens up everything else.

If your expectations are perfect touches and control all the time, you're for sure going to be disappointed.

Ultimately, it's not always going to be pretty, but it's going to cause a lot of problems due to how we exploit their speed and forward running in Howe's system.

He looked loads better with Woltemade starting, which is no surprise. Him and Gordon are the number one wingers and it’s important they get a serious run together as a three.

Howe probably wants to rotate come Saturday, but it shouldn’t be in the front three.

I don't even think he played that well today. But that's the thing, even if he messes up a couple of times, he is a constant danger.

He's the diametric opposite of Gabriel Obertan.

What do you think Jones was saying to him as he came off? Seemed like Jones was trying to big him up, maybe about the penalty and how it helped turn the game. Felt like Elanga looked a bit disheartened but it’s just my armchair psychology view

I only saw the second half. The commentators were raving about his first-half performance. He was subbed after about 15 minutes so didn't see much of him.

I thought he was frustrating a bit in the first half; just felt he never took the space afforded to him by their fullback and was sloppy with the ball in our end or when he had it in the attacking third, but he continued to grow into it and thought he was really showing his worth and quality as the match went on.

I said this in the match thread, i felt like he sometimes should be ready to burst forward in a diagonal run where he's taking his first touch towards goal (see peak Pedro for Barca or Chelsea) as his pace is lightning and he either gets a pop at goal / cross to be buried in or he's creating space for an overlapping fullback. If he's getting it wide he just needs to be decisive and run at his fullback; ain't a fullback int he league capable of keeping up with his pace and energy.

Pretty mixed opinions on here. 😂

I thought he was generally poor, but then he put in the best cross of the match and won us a penalty, so he directly influenced the result. I couldn't understand Nicky Butt raving about his performance on the BBC and I wouldn't have given him MotM.

Specific criticisms were a heavy first touch, some poor/sloppy passes, and he seemed on his heels a bit too often, so was slow to the ball.

Thought Gordon was far better. Woltemade too was excellent and the spine of the team was solid (centre-backs, centre-mid).
