That tracks now that Ornstein has confirmed both bids were total packages of €85m. If he declared he only wanted us, then I doubt the fee would have been as high.

Leipzig + his agent have played a blinder to get the max possible £ from the move all round. Which is well within their rights to do.

PSR means upstart clubs can’t take risks and get it wrong, so the list probably is very small as we’re looking at the top of the tree for either young and proven, or young and very very high potential 

 

Whereas Chelsea can have a squad of 45 they’ve spent billions on and it makes next to fuck all difference if 20 of those players rarely play 

 

As an example, if Olly Watkins or an equivalent could come here and do a job for 2 seasons and help us maintain CL football then why should his future sale value hold any importance to us, because he’d have more than justified his fee. But that’s the PSR trap that’s been created

Question is can those players take you from 5th to 1-3? And also, have the prices of those players gone up so much that they're not bargains anymore.

 

Clear something has been misjudged with our plans and we need a rethink of some kind. Let's hope the new executive appointments will sort things out.

You don't seamlessly transform a football club from a relegation candidate ran on a skeleton staff to a Champions League operation overnight.

 

Things aren't THAT bad and I'll never fault the club for trying, but my word we needs some leadership and effective challenge within the club as soon as possible. The strategy this summer has been non-existent, with individuals having to cover roles they're clearly out of their depth in.

 

Long term "the project" will be fine, as long as lessons are learned and we never find ourselves in this position again.

Can't disagree with most of that, but I do feel there's more talent out there that Howe can work with that we've either not been interested in or completely missed the boat on in favour of pursuing dead ends, whether it's being gazumped by cartel or trying to tap up players who don't want to come at all.

Ah that familiar feeling of transfer pain. I genuinely thought we’d get this one done. 
 

Can’t fault the club at all with this one but the effect of another failure will be massive given how badly they managed the first half the window. 
 

There’s going to have to be a hell of an effort to cover some of the gaps in the squad now.

Leave the accepted bid on the table and make man united match it.  At least we’ve fucked with them is some small way. 
 

In terms of Šeško I give hime some credit.  He’s acting better than Isak and put his club in a far better negotiation position.

We have to hold onto Isak now and reintegrate him back into the squad for the season. If we go for Ramos you know Chelsea or Spurs will too, it's exhausting. If Sesko or Ekitike don't work out those two cunts will be in the market for our targets next summer too.

I suspect when we were first building the squad the 6 clubs weren’t really that arsed about who we were trying to sign, as we were relegation fodder and had no track record of signing beltas

 

And for the players we were a completely different proposition. They were choosing to come here on a wing and a prayer

I get the desire to sign established / highly courted, but thats not the only method you can adopt. We are too stubborn and naive in our approach and it's costing us big time. 

Our squad desperately needed fattening up this summer, given the volume of games and players leaving. We are risking serious burn out for our core players. The 'small group of players' line is wearing a bit thin too, what are our scouts doing? Is the manager flat out rejecting suggested players?

 

You surely sign players for what the season requires. Would Palhinha not have been ideal for a season to help the workload? Douglas Luiz also? I'm amazed we don't look at these sort of deals. 

Eddie is going to have to take a gamble on a player this summer whether he likes it or not. Every transfer represents a risk to some degree.

I mean lets be honest, if he is clearly desperate to join Man Utd and his agent has been telling all the known sources that. Then there really isn't much we can do about it? I just find it funny how he'd rather be booed by his own fans while his team is getting trashed at home then join a club with a better structure and playing champions league football.

 

27th of December when we are making a mockery of them again in Old Trafford he'll regret this decision.

Instead of worrying that we're looking like plums being taken for a ride by Man Utd and Chelsea, take solace in the fact that whoever we do end up with will perform better than Pedro and Sesko. Ekitike will probably be class at Liverpool, but Amorim only knows one system and he'll be sussed again within a couple of months.
