Reason I ask is because, for me, from an outsider looking in, Man United have signed good, capable players for decent sums and given them decent wages but have had an underpinning attitude issue that rather than being flushed out has been exacerbated and taken advantage of. Which isn't so much a transfer issue but a management issue from the very top down.

I think Ten Hag went some way to eradicating that personally and so has Amorim, and actually think you'll have a better season this year finishing in and around 4th to 10th, but just wouldn't consider Man United's transfer activity a key cause for their downfall.

As for Newcastle, I think we've done very little wrong since the Saudi's came in at a playing level, coaching level or even on transfers but where we seemingly have had issues is behind the scenes at senior levels as a structure is attempted to be implemented and big personalities obviously haven't fit the mould or seen eye to eye. FFP also seems to have us handcuffed somewhat though by comparison owing to recent history.

I was on my mobile last night and didn't want to give you a half-arsed reply so wanted to wait until I got on my laptop.

You're 100% right about the attitude issue. Player power has been a huge issue at Man United for years since Fergie left and the attitude in the dressing room was rotten. All these new signings didn't suddenly turn into bad players when they came to us, but were dragged down to a professional level that just wasn't acceptable.

Ten Hag did bits and pieces to fix it, but one sorry and you were straight back into the team. Rashford spent two days having a bender in Belfast, and was seen in a nightclub until 3am when he was due in Manchester for training the following morning. He ended up reporting himself ill and missing training. All he had to do was say sorry for that to Ten Hag and he was straight back in because he was our main source of goals and Ten Hag was desperate to win. How does someone on £300,000 a week get away with that?

Amorim isn't like that, and there's a reason we adore him. If you cross him it seems like you'll get one chance, and if you mess up again you're out the door. That's what we've needed for years to fix the culture. You can feel the difference. I'm sure it was a huge shock to the system for the likes of Garnacho, but he openly questioned and basically criticised the managers decision to drop him for the EL final, and that was him finished as a Man United player. Our highest rated youngster, our diamond in the rough, yet he hasn't got the backing of any fan over the age of 12.

Feels like players will now come in to a much more professional dressing room, and that's a foundation that has been needed for at least 8 years.

----------------------------------------------

Transfers, like you say, aren't the main issue. That doesn't mean some of the decisions haven't been shocking.

  • Mount is a really good player and a good signing we were all happy with. £55m though in the last year of his contract? £250,000 a week?
  • Ronaldo is Ronaldo, but Ole didn't want him and he upset the balance immediately. Fans, including myself, were blinded by nostalgia at the time but Ole had us purring and the Ronaldo signing was his downfall
  • Sanchez is another one. Martial in incredible form on the left, and we signed Sanchez to keep him away from City. Sanchez was our highest paid player, and ended up displacing Martial despite not being anywhere near as good.
  • We chased a player (De Jong) all summer when it was clear as he day he had no interest in joining us. Then we get smacked by Brentford and Brighton and panic buy Casemiro. Don't get me wrong, Case was class that first season, but the issue with his wages and contract was always coming. He gets £18m a year.
  • Same with Antony. Available at £40-50m, and we baulked at that and fucked about all summer. Another panic buy after the Brentford and Brighton defeats.

INEOS aren't making these mistakes. They're either buying young or buying Premier League proven players, and all of them on sensible wages. I think that combined with Amorim's culture cleanse will lead to a far better environment. All that remains is whether or not Amorim has the ability to get the team performing, and I think given what he achieved at Sporting it's clear he's got the expertise.

Again, curious, do you think it's as nailed on that he's chosen Man United and it's a matter of time as what the Social Media 'Shitters and our paranoid fanbase think? Or do you think it's 50/50?

I think when Ornstein and Romano are reporting that he wants us then it's almost certainly true. I know Romano can post excessively but that's his job and it makes him money; he still posts the truth 99.99% of the time. I'd say the hold up is all down to the add-ons structure.

Probably like 90/10 he joins us at this point.

It's like cartel just sit there waiting for us to bid for someone, get on the blower as a group and ask who has funds available, and then move for our targets. Why have they only bid now? They've had the whole window

Said it before but if he prefers to go to a turmoil club and miss out in Champions League that's his choice really and there isn't much we can do about it, from the start it seems his agent was using us to draw interest from Manchester United, it seems both his agent and club are a nightmare to deal with generally, this is from when Arsenal were interested in him:

"According to those with inside knowledge of the deal, ‘during negotiations, Sesko’s agent Elvis Basanovic had left club [Arsenal] insiders jaw dropped with his shenanigans. One Insider said he presented Sesko as “Messi”"

I mean, i know it's easy to get all conspiracy theory about this sort of stuff, and it could have been their plan all along, but every one of our top targets has been poached by the cartel (some fault on our end as well with terrible negotiating skills), they've tried and succeeded ing unsettling our star player, they only seem to move for players when we show our hand. We talk about them as the cartel but maybe they do just sit around with the PL and discuss how they can ensure we don't knock them off their perches. It's entirely possible

I don’t doubt it. They are afraid of us and rightly so! Villa too and to a degree Forest. Us more so.( could also be the timing of their needs as well. Can’t count Chewsee they just collect players).

Jamie Reuben extending his holiday out in Leipzig.

As expected Man United were trying to put us off or have the player reject us outright so they could then start begging and haggling.

Surely neither of these two things have happened if we're still hanging about?! Have we called their bluff then after the big propaganda push?!

Looking like Leipzig aren't budging on their demands and Sesko hasn't said to us outright that we are not an option.

The hilarity if Sesko ends up joining Newcastle still or even staying at Leipzig if we do eventually move on.

Man U will up their bid eventually if they think there's any chance Sesko could pick Newcastle just to get a move done.

Especially after what has been said about him on here.

Well at that point it will be confirmed that him choosing you was all media spin and so I'm sure people will move past it.

The problem is Leipzig also wanted a ton of the fee upfront.

It's been 24 hrs now with no further movement and now we're getting these kind of reports coming in.

Leipzig were so tough to deal with they sent Arsenal packing twice. I'm just not 100% certain this is going to end in Man United's favour.

But lets see. They've got a former Red Bull man in house, so maybe he can convince them and get some favours due to his connections.

Offer Leipzig the money we are apparently willing to spend on Nicolas Jackson, then. 80 million pounds. Take it or leave it. If that doesn't get him, at least Leipzig can then demand the same from Manure.
