Not sure I necessarily put any onus on Ramsdale in that conceded own-goal, not that I really think either keeper we've used this season are the long term answer. Shite defending though, would expect more from Tonali.

I wanted to try him but we're not making the best use of his ability on the ball and he absolutely frightens the shite out of me when balls come in or if an attacker gets in behind.

I thought he was good on the ball, he always is. Just not a good goalkeeper. Think he could/should do better with both goals.

Thought he played well today to be honest, made so really smart saves, and his distribution was decent. I do wish we have a hybrid of Pope and Ramsdale though, Ramsdale doesn't inspire confidence in the command of his box, whereas Pope does, but Ramsdale is good at distribution and you feel like hes an outlet when we have possession, shot stopping, they seem similar though Pope probably edges it. They're literally ying and yang and its kind of frustrating.

First goal, way past the back stuck so he ain't coming to claim that, and then came off Bruno's ass and had no chance as it was out of reach. 

 

Second goal was basically a one on one and he made himself big but it went under his arm. Unlucky.. 

 

No corner was in the six yard box as Woltemade headed most and vollied a couple others clear. 

 

Passing and overall distribution was good other than the obvious clearence what nearly cost a goal but he made up for it with a solid save. 

 

Who is better and available realistically?

No major criticism of Ramsdale. However ever goal we have conceded with him so far, I feel like every time I see the replay I keep thinking..."could have done better". 

Not sure if it's true but that's been my instinctive reaction.

Made some very good saves tonight, that one first half going top corner was class. Love the calmness he brings. I was calling for him to come into the side and I don’t think he’s done much wrong since getting a chance.

 

However, he absolutely terrifies me with set penises. If Pope is fit Sunday I’d bring him back in. New keeper needs to be top priority in January. And not Trafford.

I wanted to see what he’s all about but I think he looks like an accident waiting to happen unfortunately. We definitely didn’t need to compound our set piece issues with a keeper who is so weak / passive on crosses.

This is pretty much where I'm at too. I think he and Pope have different strengths and weaknesses, but Pope is probably the lesser of two evils just in that he is a bit more commanding (but still not ideal since he loves a flap too). 

 

When he's fit, I'd have Pope back in until January and then make signing a new goalkeeper a priority.

Pope comes straight back in next week and it’s not even close. Even with all the fuck ups he’s been making. 
 

He plays like he’s half a foot shorter than he is. He is slow to react to everything. He is rooted to his line/the spot all the while. Rarely comes for a cross or to sweep up. His shots on target to goals ratio must be really bad. As it seems like he rarely makes a decent save. Too many goals conceded where I think he could and probably should be doing better. 
 

It is nice having him ping the ball about and find players in space, mind. Just the actual goalkeeping part I have an issue with.
 

I don’t think we’ll do it in Jan. But we need to go big on a keeper now. Feels like it’s the main priority and it’s cost us a lot of points already this season.

I think we are starting to see why Howe was so reluctant to use him over Pope, he's obviously much better with the ball at his feet but worse at everything else, not awful but nothing close to a top keeper (on early viewing at least)

Most are saying we must sign a new keeper in January or end of the season but who? 

 

Very very easy to call for new players/staff but I don't think many will be able to say I would buy AB or C because of XY and Z and they're better than Ramsdale. 

 

Nowt wrong with Ramsdale he wasn't the one wrestling instead of attempting to head a football this evening.
