I like that he can actually play football and it does make a notable difference to us but as a goalkeeper he seems lacking unfortunately.

Yeah, I've thought that but I have a lot of hardcore arsenal mates and they say theyd probably be doing as well if he was their keeper now.  Maybe its rustiness.

Very early days but I think he looks poor. He’s particularly weak on corners imo. Doesn’t inspire confidence at all.

Gk overhaul needed in the summer, Ramsdale isn’t the answer based on what we’ve seen so far.

He clearly is being ‘targeted’. Most teams chuck corners in like that now. But he is rooted to his line and plays like he’s about 5 inches shorter than he is. Needed Burn and Woltemade to bail him out from what I saw.

Not digging him out. It is what it is and I hope in the right games. His ability on the ball can help us out.

Bur considering Pope was called worse than shite. It hasn’t been anywhere near the upgrade this forum would have had you believe. He looks nervy as fuck.

Not a fan of 'keepers scrambling across their goal line as crosses come in. Pope might overplay his hand at times with crosses, but I'd much rather have a 'keeper that commands on crosses.

Pope has been really commanding in his penalty area for the past few seasons, but even he's been flapping at them this time round. I don't know if that's because defenders are crowding the keepers more as a tactic on corners these days.

I’m glad people are seeing that this lad is not better than Nick Pope. When Pope is back in the side we should give him some grace.

Saying that.  I do think Ramsdale should improve. Dubs of last year was better than he’s been in years. I don’t think Ramsdale is confident yet.  He needs a game where he makes a few good saves and claims a good few crosses.

I asked a couple of Arsenal fans if Ramsdale was this comically bad on crosses for them and I got:

"Yes, it's arguably his weakest attribute and probably the biggest difference between him and Raya who is generally one of the best at claiming the ball in the air."

"Yeah it's why he doesn't play for us any more."

We knew he's nothing specual it's why he was replaced. We kicked the can on goalkeepers last summer.

I’m not sure Trafford will happen, surely after we refused to budge much on price we’re not going to raise it after the season he’s had. He looked dodgy at the start of the season and will have barely played for a year.

Very predictable that Pope gets better and better according to some on here for every game he doesn't play, as if he didn't have any shady moments that didn't involve his kicking.

Problem is people were concentrating that much on his weak kicking they forget about the parts he does well like keeping clean sheets for starters, has Ramsdale kept one yet for us?

how tall is he, looked about 5ft 8 when all those corners were raining down on him

Going from how he's handled the crosses in the two starts he's had so far, I'd say there's no chance we are going to take up the option of a permanent deal.

More like concentrating on his weak kicking they forget that there's other stuff he's not very good at either, like catching or timing a ball, or moving his body in general really without looking like he's on the brink of keeling over.

How many of those clean sheets of ours were the result of Popes goalkeeping rather than the collective defending of the team? Ramsdale would have had a clean sheet yesterday if weren't for Ramseys handball, but the clean sheet wouldn't have been thanks to Ramsdale's great goalkeeping, same as most of our clean sheets aren't thanks to Pope.

I'd rather have Ramsdale in than Pope. Pope hasn't been the player he was since before his shoulder injury and this season has been responsible for far too many soft goals. Ramsdale deserves a run, his strengths should take us further as a team .

I agree, we play better with Ramsdale as he doesn't just lump it and looks comfortable on the ball. If it was Pope from a couple of years ago who wasn't punching everything on crosses when he's massive or generally looking dodgy I might say Pope should come back in, but he's not, he looks very dodgy and Ramsdale doesn't shit himself when the ball is played to him.

We need a new keeper though.

The goalkeeper people want... barely exists. You get the odd one like Allison comes along once in a blue moon but the reality is that most keepers are either commanding aerial or good with their feet. Of course you get some which are decent at both, but thats it, they are decent.

Despite some recent errors, Pope is outstanding at most traditional goalkeeping, hes commanding, he sweeps well (again in general), hes a great shot stopper but hes god awful with his feet...  so, so bad.

Ramsdale isnt dominant at all but hes a good shot stopper and a modern goalkeeper who is happy with the ball at his feet. Hes also a much better communicator than Pope.

Choose your poison.

For those crying for this mythical goalkeeper thats out there whos amazing at both, perhaps they exist but when keepers like Donnarumma come into this league and show some frailty (however minor), you realise that its not so easy.

Is prefer us to concentrate not conceding possession, chances and daft set pieces, and then defending properly to protect our keepers.

People can talk all day about Raya being an amazing keeper, but behind that defence, most keepers would look amazing. Remember last year when he gifted us a goal in a semi final? Thats not me saying hes a bad keeper... but the worse the team is playing, the worse the keeper looks.

Ramsdale and Pope are both good keepers. Its difficult.
