I don't think we should sign him permanently but he'll do as a loan back up. Totally fine as a loan backup but that's his limits for me. Dyche always got credit for keeping Burnley up so many seasons but I've always kept my opinion that it's no coincidence their luck ran out and they got relegated the season we bought Pope. Pope's been brilliant for us, but this season he's been very wobbly. That injury might have saved his England prospects IMO, he was looking decidedly dodgy for a few weeks leading up to it. The biggest thing with Ramsdale is that he seems slow when diving from a standing position. See the Neto handball 'goal', he was on the same slow motion that he was for the second Spurs goal. Thought he was decent enough today overall I genuinely don't think we'd have got CL twice if we had Ramsdale in the team. People on here are quick to praise everyone for their parts in that except Pope. He's not perfect and it may be time for us to upgrade but I still reckon a lot of teams would be better if they had Pope in it

Superior Acuña
I think that's harsh on him for both goals. Also got my doubts about him but couldn't fault him today.

Personally I just don't get that opinion on him. My opinion is when pope returns then games like that we'll get over the line and bring the three points home Edited December 20, 2025 by Gawalls

Maybe harsh , I’ll need to see it again.

Thought he was decent enough today overall Agree with this. The second paragraph in particular. I always say he is rooted to the spot and in his defence, for crosses and coming to sweep up. He has been much better the last two games. His dives always tend to be from a standing start and looks full stretch for everything. The slow-mo replays of shots that are going wide are always hilarious for this Doesn’t help that he seems slow to react to stuff, as well. He is never moving his feet across. I think he really helped us in possession today and bar League Cup games. It’s the first time I’ve really noticed it and thought it was a weapon for the side and worth the trade off. I suppose maybe Everton to a much lesser degree. I think overall having Pope back would make us less likely to concede and stronger from set pieces. But we would lose some of that control on the ball and find it even harder than we do now to retain possession. New keeper required, either way. Then the second goal has gone straight through him. in between, there was an incident of them getting in behind us which was screaming out for him to come and deal with with his feet. First half, the handball which he allowed to get past him was just farcical. His starting position is poor, which contributes to our centre-backs dropping deep, and he’s generally non-existent when it comes to dealing with corners. Tsunami
Might be wrong but did Bruno not jump in the wall and the ball goes there? Pope might have saved the free kick and he makes himself bigger for the equaliser.
Wallsendmag
Not good enough to be a number one. Reasonable back up. Nowt we didn't know before he signed.
Vedder
I have to say I was pleased when we signed him and it is great to see what a keeper comfortable on the ball brings to the team. But he just isn’t great at the basics you need from a keeper at this level. Good free kick but it’s come a long way, not hit hard and is at a decent height for a save to be made. We've got used to having a really top keeper in Pope for a few years and got spoiled. Pope's handling of crosses has been exemplary, but not this season funnily enough. If people could see Ramsdale for what he is, a £4m loan signing as back up, they'd probably be a lot less harsh.
London Mag
Laughable in here. After Marseille most of you wanted Popey binned. Rambo comes in and gets blamed for every goal ignoring the shit show in front of him. Can't see much he's done wrong apart from the weak punch against Spurs
nufc4eva
Not sure Pope would have saved those today and Ramsdales distribution was excellent, his throw to Elanga should have led to a goal as well.
