The College Dropout
Our strength at defensive set pieces and cornerstone of our side. Pope is massive for that. Pope has such great presence. For me that still means a lot. It’s going out the modern game. Of the top teams only Courtois, Donnarumma, Alisson, Neuer still have that. They all have goalkeeper builds without seeing much of him I liked Mamadarshvelli just due to his size and frame I also like my centrebacks to win their headers over some nice passing but I can concede that’s not the modern way

If he can reliably hit the runs of Gordon and Elanga like this then it's going to have a pretty big impact on being able to break teams down. Could be transformative for us. I'm also kind of glad Ramsdale doesn't excel at short range passing for the purposes of "playing out from the back". Feel like even the keepers who are known to be good at that frequently fuck it up. Long/medium range passing out from the back should present much less risk, although I'm sure we will try to go shorter as well.

The College Dropout
Memories of Pickford booting it long to wingers and attackers that either went astray or were lost every single time in the euros final. And he didn’t stop. It wasn’t working and he kept doing it. Infuriating.

For me nothing beats a GK that just comes out and grabs it. Nothing. Barnes often play with 4 CBs and Raya is still one of the most proactive at crosses. And we are a team that does a lot of actual defending. More than Arsenal at least.

This is decent deal: if he is good, we make him no 1. If he fails, we send him back, if he is ok, we make him a good no 2. We likely bring in a low cost GK. Not spending £20m on Ramsdale for him not to be number 1. Best case, we accept it’s an expensive loan and leave it at that. Pope is settled in area and accepts a one year deal to remain at a top club, and we nail a long term GK.

It won’t be a loan, we will make it a permanent buy because Pope will be off next summer. Just average as average can be. Like a Matt Targett level of signing which I’d hope we moved on from. Or a Dan Burn...

We'll see about that. 20 million for Gk of Ramsdale's CV is not that bad, IF he is ok with us. But we don't even know what the price next summer is. Anyway either it is Ramsdale for few years or next summer we get 2 GKs with Ramsdale and Pope out the door.

AyeDubbleYoo
In way it's like some of our previous transfers. A guy who has dipped a little after being highly rated, has a high ceiling if he can be trained and guided. Sure it's just a coincidence that Eddie Howe has his mobile number. Can put a price on playing for your boyhood club getting that extra % and consistency in your game. Ramsdale has been at multiple clubs, had highs but lows, and him as a long term goalkeeper is underwhelming of the highest level. He’s not a disaster, but he’s also not great, just your straight down the middle average goalkeeper which is not fancy for the price point it would be for a permanent move. I’ll back him as if he does well, we do well, but there’s no sugar coating it’s an abject signing.
AyeDubbleYoo
I'm kind of assuming we will target a Marma/Trafford style young elite keeper when we have our new exec team in place and everything is running better. Ramsdale might end up number 2 and Pope moves out.

Crimson Cardigan
He’s had a lot of ups and downs, he’s played behind a great defence and a shite one, he’s still young for a keeper and this is a huge opportunity for him. heres hoping we can add him to our fairly sizeable “unwanted by the fans but turned out to be a bargain” list of signings. Ikon
I was “ok” with us not signing a keeper if it meant more money available for other positions. This signing is a step better than not signing a GK at all while still allowing us to spend more in other areas. We just need that last bit sorted, actually getting players over the line. Having a keeper with decent feet will obviously make a difference to our overall play, no doubt. Not the most exciting in any way but still a solid addition if he can find his best form. Not much to lose really.
