Famous Nick
it saves us money to spend on another department. but he is only a marginal improvement on Pope if any at all. albeit much better than the other 6 GKs we have who now all can be sold imo. we really dont need 5/6 adult GK's at the club. lets have Ramsdale, Pope a youngster GK and sell all the rest. Weezertron
At the very least bringing him means we have to move on to the signings that actually fucking matter.

Lazarus
So the most newcastle thing to happen would be for him to fail his medical yeah?

Guest
Don't think hes coming here to be a sub, nor do i think we pay 4m on a loan to have him sit on the bench. I see this as a try before you buy and Pope may go elsewhere. it is worrying that the 3 GK's we have tried to sign for the first team (Pope, Trafford & Ramsdale) were all newly relegated

We look for value and that means we explore all options available to us. Besides, nobody can dismiss how well Pope has done for us
Norseman
Personally, think this is a smart deal. £4m is peanuts these days and we can decide if we want a permanent deal after a year. We can then revisit the GK position as either he or pope inevitably leaves. Probably next summer, when we hopefully have a more stable executive department. Optimistic Nut
Happier with this the more I think about it tbh. Hope he goes in as first choice, think we can improve the way we play with him in goal.

Hanshithispantz
I think it's an exciting signing with next to no risk like. As great as Pope's strengths are he needs phasing out. It's just a shame the keeper isn't a position you can just rotate, as there's certain games I'd definitely still want Pope in goal.
