Don't think he can sweeper keep.

So I'd go popey.

Arsenal press high and their defenders play a high line.

Their keepers have to play as sweeper keepers and he did that when he was at Arsenal.

Watched a 2025 compilation of Wissa today, and it featured 2 massive fuck ups by Ramsdale. Didn't fill me with a great deal of confidence [emoji38]

No worries man. They'll be on the same side

I just find it hard to believe our list of potential keepers for the last 12 months consisted of only:

  1. Trafford (Potential future England No.1)
  2. Ramsdale (Who by his own admission struggles to concentrate for 90 mins and coincidentally has been relegated three times in four years)

Pope must be like :burn2:

If we lose Isak we're weaker regardless of who we bring in so you can sort of see the point Ryder is making, but no one in their right mind is taking the window shutting tomorrow if offered. The squad is nowhere near big enough and we absolutely must replace Wilson and Longstaff.

I'm convinced we'll do some good business this window and I remain excited to see how it transpires. Sign Ramsdale, Wissa and a couple others; resolve Isak one way or the other: get the CEO and SD sorted to provide leadership at a corporate level and a connection to the owners; enjoy a couple of morale-boosting friendlies at SJP... all of those things are achievable and would at least mean we've got our ducks in a row in time for matchday one.

I've not followed the stuff today but if there's stories about the squad's discontentment about the direction of the club, my question is: where was that story pre-Isak? Standard tabloid behaviour, just feeding off doom.

Nick Pope gets bad rap on here because he can't pass - but the group of goalkeepers who are a sure thing to be better than him is a very small group. And if you are going to spend £20m+ on a goalkeeper (especially with our PSR situation) then it needs to be a sure thing. I think it's pretty obvious Trafford was the one person in the market we thought was a sure thing, and then having not been able to get that deal done, we've gone with an option that is cheaper and might give Pope some competition rather than outright replace him.

He'll have a handful of solid performances. There'll be an average of 3 posts in this thread after each solid performance. The club will make the deal permanent in the summer. There'll be about 20 new pages saying he's a solid back up keeper, so we can now concentrate on replacing Pope. The whole team will have an absolute stinker in tbe 4th round of the FA Cup and go out the competition. There'll be 30 new pages for this thread putting the blame on Ramsdale and Andy Howe

I feel it will go in more extreme swings. As soon as he makes his first worldy save (or insane pass that leads to a goal) and starts playing about with the fans, everyone in here will love. Then it will swing the opposite direction with his first daft cock up and people will be calling for him to be sent back to Southampton.

The lack of activity on this thread perfectly sums up what we all think.

Hope he's a success and gets back to his best.

But I'm scared he's bringing his relegation curse :memelol:

I mean, it's a goalkeeper. I can't rouse more than a semi unless it's Shay fuckin' Given. How excited should we be?

In seriousness. Ramsdale is average and a bit bland, but good business by the club. Try before you buy.

I just hope the buy part isn't the remaining amount of the alleged buyout (16-21m minus the 4m from loan).

Guess we shall see, but hope he plays well because I've seen enough of Pope's punts into touch for a lifetime tbh.

Seems fine to me. Obviously we didn’t have another long term target like Marmadashvili or Trafford on the list. Get Ramsdale in to buy time, keep either Pope or (more likely) Ramsdale as backup to a new guy once we sort out the entire structure of the football club. Easy.

He might be an average keeper but I don't think he's bland. He's a total tit, arguably the most annoying cunt in the league, and has a great driven pass on him. We'll love him.
