It is if you make the assumption that markets always stay the same, which they don't. Our profile and position is different, the market dynamics are different, the pool of players is different. Nickson could have found his sweet spot in bringing lesser-coveted players to a new project under Staveley, but in this current market and with the project (always hesitant to use that word) maturing and changing, and us playing at the top table, he could be struggling. Most people have a sweetspot where their capabilities match the situation, but if you don't adapt when things change, you can quickly find yourself obsolete/out of your depth. Whether that's true here we don't know but the signs point to someone or multiple people not being able to operate effectively at this level.

Ramsey isn’t exactly a wild card though, is he?

so why the negativity towards it? The track record is superb, and if anything, our struggles have came from moving away from

this type of profile of player.

Anyone saying ‘stop all transfers until they sort a structure out’ is off their rocker, imo anyway.

Not more than John Percy I don't think. It's more what he posts now rather than whether it's truthful or not now. He used to be a very concrete 'deal done' person. These days he posts everything from options, interest and talks, all the way down to his own opinion and a couple of days ago credited IndyKhalia.

I think the point is that due to his reach and gravitas in the transfer game, he's being used by agents etc to drive a narrative, therefore you can no longer put maximum weight into what he says. Hopefully people will start seeing that quickly and it'll be the end of him as the self-appointed guru.

Exactly. He's enshittified himself like Romano did, but both of them have done it at record speed.

I'm definitely not criticising Ramsey as a target. I actually think it's quite an exciting link. My point is more in reference to us not being able to attract the next level of player, which points to a bigger issue in the capabilities of our recruitment team. Whatever Mitchell was referring to when he said 'not fit for purpose', whether it was the right team not in place or the identification of targets, his comment seems to have some weight. If we get Wissa, the lad from Leicester, Ramsey and another decent striker, you'd have to call that a decent window, but when we could potentially have had Ekitike, Pedro, Trafford, Sesko and possibly Guehi, it highlights that we're now shopping at the tier below.

Regardless, something needs addressing and I imagine it will be addressed. We can't do anything about it now but we need to ensure we don't have another window like this one going forward.

what are people expecting. i think he's a good signing. we need depth and he provides it. he's not going to start but he's a decent player and a good backup.

If him and Willock can synchronise their injuries like Isak and Wilson did we good.

But we need some ceiling raisers too.

Was Tonali the last one?

Elanga I guess does it slightly but who is out there that would considerably raise the ceiling who would sign?

Hall? Elanga?

I also think Ramsdale.

I wouldn't be surprised if they got him and El Khannouss. Willock had 2 years left, they'll move him on next summer.

Isak will likely leave and once they've got 2 strikers there should be some money to play with. Hope they get both.

We need players who can play in the PL without drastically reducing the quality of our performance.

Id be far more confident in Ramsey than Longstaff or Willock.

IF we can keep him fit. That’s my only concern is his injury record.

I'd be happy with Ramsey given his versatility and how much Eddie seems to like him. Hopefully we can get a decent deal with him having refused to sign a new contract and Villa needing more FFP wiggleroom.

Also hope we're still going after El Khannouss.

No way that's happening unless we sell Isak. By then Khanouss will have gone you would imagine.

Interesting debate, I think. Currently I think most of us would accept raising the floor as much as we now seem like we might given how awful the window has been at times, but is it a failure not to add anyone who raises the ceiling?

Personally think the signings raise the floor and then Eddie works on them so that they raise the ceiling.

Ramsey would be ideal as a more positive option for home games bar the big six and away games against the bottom sides. Joelinton isn't always necessary in those kind of matches and is a detriment to our play at times, but has his value when you need to dig in a bit more or spoil.
