I don’t really like the idea of signing players and hoping Howe can turn them into world beaters. I think Howe can get the best of out some players but Ramsey is already coming from a team as good as us and with an elite manager.

Aye but we can trust he's seen something. Bit like Nuno with Wood.

We're looking for a 4th midfielder here, all he needs to be is relatively healthy and competent.

(I understand there may be some doubt about the "relatively healthy" part mind )

I think more than anything most of the board just had their hearts set on signing the Leicester lad tbh

Which may still happen who knows.

Fans will always want the younger player with more upside. But yeah, maybe we have enough money left over that we're trying to bin Willock and get two more rotation CMs.

Personally I think we should be looking at a CM purple. One that can play with Bruno and Sandro consistently. There will be rotation needed and Joelintons fitness these days is questionable. Probably not happening but I’d like a purple as well as someone young and different like El-Kebab. Or at least two younger ones.

Don’t think we get any purples this summer tbh.

given his output over the last two seasons, that's not an unreasonable assumption

To be honest I think the whole “purple” thing doesn’t make a whole lot of sense - I’d say Trippier and Tonali are the only players we signed where a lot of football viewers knew they were top drawer. Isak was highly rated but hadn’t yet lived up to billing, Botman wasn’t seen as finished article, experts knew Bruno was mint but many of us hadn’t heard of him I thought. I don’t really think we buy purples, because of PSR and the cartel’s ability to offer better wages.

I thought he was an interesting option earlier in the summer when we were supposed to be targeting the PSR deadline and when I saw Barnes and Gordon as the likely options if we wanted to make a relatively big sale. Fitness permitting he would be a good Willock replacement and give us cover down the left side, but at this point I'd be underwhelmed if we spent any real money on him or if he was our only midfield signing.

Would rather the Leicester lad to give us something different. If Ramsey didn’t have injury problems I would be all for this because I think he’s a talented player. Just think it’s going to be a lot of money for quite a big risk (injury).

Whatever happens we need a CM before the end of the window

If the definition of "purple" is someone who immediately improves the first team squad relative to what we had before, then Elanga 100% qualifies.

Beyond that we don't have any glaring holes in the first XI so it's difficult to find a player that could improve us and would not be prohibitively expensive. I could see us making a really ambitious signing at CM if we did sell Isak and had cash to burn, but otherwise most of our PSR headroom this season needed to go to strengthening the squad.

If we’re buying the dip like before and the price is right then it could be brilliant business. Ramsey’s drive, energy and athleticism would add a real spark alongside Bruno and Tonali. He’s a far better player than Willock and just feels like an Eddie player too

Obviously the key caveat is his fitness; if he can stay injury-free, he’d be a great asset for us imo.
