He is twenty-three years old, just arrived in a new league and shoved into the starting lineup due to injury, and is completely unsuited to the way we play. Yet still manages to score 9 goals in 20 starts and has the occasional moment of unbelievable class.

Just be patient and good times will come. He will adapt to the team and the team will adapt to him.

Some of the stuff I read about the lad annoys me.

He doesn't suit how we play that's obvious, but I don't blame him for that. He's a very talented player and would thrive with the right style of play.

I was thinking earlier today given he doesn't suit how we play if he was a bit of a panic buy given how the Isak saga dragged right to the end of the window.

But then I thought about our first target of Joao Pedro who isn't an out and out striker, and so I thought Howe must want something a bit different for low blocks.

I haven't seen any change in style though this season so not sure what the plan is, but if it's to continue playing in this style I don't really see it working.

When we were linked with Ektike the plan was supposedly to play him and Isak together. Howe has pretty much said he won’t be playing Wolt and Wissa together though, so fuck knows.

He wasn’t here pre season, so maybe this summer will see us work on developing our playing style more.

Not his best game and needs to be stronger at protecting the ball sometimes. But still got a nice assist and is working hard.

As we keep saying. Team isn't set up for him currently. Doesn't mean he can't still be useful.

This thread is weird as fuck like.

“He’d be good at a team like Arsenal that can possess the ball”

Isn’t the goal to be a team like Arsenal? Who are top of the league? To be a team that can possess the ball? To be a team that can be top of the league?

I remain confident that we will sell him back to Germany this Summer. Nice lad and was willing to sign when nobody else would but not suited to what we are.

The only ones who could afford him are Bayern. And would they give us back the fee we paid Stuttgart for him?

Personally, I'd give the lad more time to settle in, and us more time to try to find a way to maximise his strengths. He reminds me a bit of Dennis Bergkamp, he is not an out and out striker, and yet that is the role he is being asked to play through no fault of his own.

Maybe we can turn him into a prolific striker eventually, but that's not going to happen overnight. Patience will be required.

Yes but I'm sure Bergkamp played alongside Wright who was an out an out striker. Or did before Henry took on that role. Problem is we play with only one forward.

No one has successfully played more than one up front for probably a decade now.

im not saying thats what you’re asking for but I think it’s crazy how often this gets suggested when there’s almost zero recent examples of a team doing it and being successful now. Pellegrini’s sort of 442 at City was probably the last one I can think of.

If you listen to Howe and learn about his coaching.

No.  It’s not to be like Arsenal.  Possession for possessions sake? Absolutely not. We attack quickly and directly.

After peeling myself off the ceiling from a late comeback win, one of my first thoughts was to fire up the Woltamade thread and talk up the merits of selling our £70 million striker, who's been one of our better players this season.

Ekitike was always going to be Isak’s replacement IMO. Never bought that line at all.

Tad annoying we started peppering the Leeds box with crosses after Woltemade had gone off.

That’s because we were breaking at pace and Murphy was able fire them in without having to delay by at times not even having to wait to look up knowing Wissa was keeping up.

With Nick we stop and that forces us to do that passing triangle move to find the space wide for us to get a cross or pull back in.

Rewatch the Willock miss from the last game and see how far behind the play he is before he reaches Willock to console him.

He’s got to get in the box quicker and he’s got to get stronger so he can bully defenders. Otherwise we are not talking about small adjustments.

Pleased he got an assist last night with nice lay off.
