Thought he was alright. Remain unconvinced that he's ever gonna be anything like prolific but at least we achieved part one in providing him with chances. That one on one (second big chance) hasn't happened once before I don't think.

Despite the misses, I was much happier with that game from him today than some of the ones where he was scoring from nothing. Actually looked a threat.

Took up different positions today which was nice to see. Ones where he was side on looking to run behind, which straight away makes defenders have to positions themselves differently even if he won’t win a foot race.

Small changes that is clearly coming from Howe which helps us, and will help him long term in this league.

And please don't overlook the fact that he draws defenders towards him, creating space. Barnes is currently making the best use of this. Wolte radiated a lot of goal threat today.

Well said.

The first header was just a great save. He got power and directed it low to the side, give Donna some credit. Second chance was a difficult angle but thought he showed good feet to get a good powerful shot on target off. Another encouraging game.

I was impressed. Any other keeper and he'd have scored at least 1.

That's exactly right.

I think Wolle was much more present in the box. Eddie's tactical instructions seem to be paying off.

His header and both shots were good and on target. How often do strikers shoot wide?

Donnarumma, unfortunately, was even more brilliant in those moments.

Think he’s absolutely class. If he’s patient and just listens to Eddie and the coaching staff he’s going to be a real threat. The most we’ve created for him and on another day or another keeper at least one of those is in.

For his shot with Nico O'Reilly coming across he only had one place to put it and Donna did well. The header he did well to hold back and then the space was created, another good save. I feel like he got more opportunities in this game and that is promising.

All the tactical analysis pieces about our bad form recently focused on this. Basically how teams had wised up to him and how good he is on the ball. But also his lack of pace to go behind. Centre backs regularly following him about and getting very tight on his first touch.

We haven’t really figured out how to exploit the space this can leave, until tonight. No runners beyond, nobody there for him to lay it off to, wide men 20-30 yards away on the touchline etc.

We seemed to want to move the ball quicker and with more purpose tonight and it certainly helped.

Said for a while out of all our wide men. That Barnes will be best suited to playing with Woltemade. Glad he is now showing that. At least I got something right for once

He is such a likeable lad as well. Really humble and cheerful all the while.

Maybe could do with getting some lessons from Shearer on how to be more of a nasty cunt when he needs to be. Although not too far. As we have VAR nowadays

Needs to adjust his natural tenancy to drop really deep and get involved as much, certainly until Wissa is back. I know it's his game and he's really good at it but we need him to be at the head of the attack and be a target in the box for Murphy and Barnes to hit more often. I think it'll benefit the team more, it's not a criticism but we need someone near the penalty spot as we're attacking
