We looked pretty dangerous from these against Benfica. Wonder how much it is a reflection of Benfica being a bit shit at them or our set piece nerd starting to have an impact

It was pretty much tge same routine as well. Start with Burn central, Botman back postish then Botman comes in and Burn rotates round to back post as ball comes in and they couldn't handle it. Not so sure it would've been as effective in the prem.

I’ve not seen any improvement since the new guy came in. If anything, look worse :D We tried short corners to work a different angle first few games, but that’s been rightly shelved.

Get Tindall back on it.

Stats would say different.

I would say instead that's when they stopped some of the overly complicated stuff and just realised we have a team of literal giants so what's so bad about a proper corner with pace right into the mixer.

What's it like at other clubs as long throws/hoy it in the mixer seems to be more of a thing now given the rule changes (which dont actually seem to have changed much) ?

yeah, want to see what we do against Fulham and Spurs. See if there’s any genuine improvement.
Yesterday was a lot better though.

I thought the corners looked better last night. Not totally shit, anyway. Didn’t the goal come from retaining possession after a dangerous corner?

It looked like we were trying a variation of one of the Arsenal corners from a season or two ago. Although the timing was a bit off. We had everyone at the back post close in on goal. Who then all came into the 6 yard box and right on top of Donnarumma. A few times the delivery was excellent from Tonali.

I think he has tried before and been a bit crap. But it’s mad that Murphy is our best crosser of the ball from open play. But is never considered for set pieces.

Just following on from this. Never understood why we didn’t do the Arsenal tactic from corners considering our physicality. No shame in copying something that’s working for someone else! Corners much better yesterday and contributed massively to three points

I'm of the view that you just put it on the penalty spot when you have a team of our height and physicality. I think you can be guilty of over engineering "the perfect corner" aiming to put it too specifically one one players head and rather it'd be better for players to simply attack the ball.

Perhaps I'm simple though

I'd guess 99% of our set pieces are utter wank

I thought we signed a set piece coach?

At this point, just take the free kick quickly old Barcelona style.

We threatened city every time and basically copied Arsenals crowding. Why did we ignore that today?

Burn did communicate to Hall to do one in second half, clearly a “fuck this set piece shit off Hall, get it swung back post”, but Hall underhit it :D

Our set pieces have got worse this season. Just laughable at this point. Whenever we get a free kick from a shooting position and it’s a game I’m watching on TV, always a good time to go to the toilet / get a drink because it never threatens the goal.

Being our Set Piece Coach is up there with 4th choice GK, in terms of easiest jobs around.

Yoane Wissa's football boots have got a pretty easy life too

I do find our approach to attacking corners quite bizarre, there was a couple yesterday where the delivery goes to the back post and we didn't even have a single player there, not one

I get the plan might have been front post but surely you have at least one player at the back?

Awful, both defending them them and taking them now.

Unforgiveable for that first goal yesterday with 6 big men all taking up the front post and leaving Tonali and Bruno at the back.

It’s been a joke - quite embarrassing if you ask me

I honestly think we are getting worse as the weeks have gone - I am just even more worried about our defending since Ramsdale came into the side

As for attacking set plays - totally unforgivable how useless we have become

We don't have anyone who can do a really long throw

That is a significant issue…

Everyone raves about how good Brentford are on long throws, but if you’ve got someone that can hoy it like Kayode, along with two or three big lads, it doesn’t take too much work.

Much like corners, if you’re delivery is a bit shit, you’re going to struggle.

Corners weren’t great last night, but hardly useless when when we scored from them in two of the previous three.
