Teslact
What's with Hall at corners, starting around the middle of the 6 yard box and then kind of wheeling out to the 18 but then just stopping there? There were a few times that the ball ended up free at the back post, which if he'd actually ran a circle (a wheel route in NFL parlance) he would have had a free run at goal. mosstef
So... another goal from a corner yesterday. Martin Mark the magician
Lush Vlad
I thought they were much better yesterday. We looked a threat on almost every corner and the delivery was usually spot on. It’s far from perfect and our free kicks aren’t particularly inspiring. But I think we’ve started bagging a few goals from corners now?
TRon
I wonder what Hall would be like on direct free kicks? We don't seem to have any left footed options for when we get a set piece 20-30 yds out. We had a great position yesterday and when Murphy stepped up for one on the right, you knew his only choice was to chip it in.
jack j
I spent around 55 seconds of the first 6 minutes watching the ball in Jefferson Lermas hands waiting to take throw ins Not just palace but pretty much every team Zzzzz
1964
It shows the cyclical nature of football. Long balls etc used to be a common thing, then defenders learned how to cope so the attacking style changed to a more technical one. Now we've almost forgotten how to defend long balls, so they are bearing fruit and back in vogue. Bring back the centre half built like a brick outhouse who can't pass a ball but can hoof it and we'll go back to the technical game
SteV
The job description of a PL set piece coach seems to be to try and master the art of getting someone to swing a corner under the bar and have a load of your big lads crash the keeper. I genuinely can’t remember anyone scoring from a corner this season that wasn’t anything more than just a slight variation on this. Not even something as varied as Burn’s in the cup final. Kanj
I’m not sure why we didn’t copy Arsenal with the units we have in def. Crowd the keeper and swing it over the top on the keeper. Max havoc and chaos. Job done.

Have we not done that? it seems we’ve been much better at corners and set pieces in general this season can think of 4/5 goals that have come from them already
Mikky
Miley as a set piece threat has imo coincided with our general set piece improvement - he has a canny knack of being in the right place - then you add in the likes of Thiaw, Big Nick, Big Joe and one of the other 3 CBs and it’s quite threatening
Haz
Miller is outstanding but I think he needs to practice getting some elevation in his corners.

Add to this the Bruno “fook me he’s going for goal” left sided inswinger and who’d want to be a keeper for that mess with the big lads in there. Checko
I agree. I'm sure there's lots of work in terms of getting players to move and block runners etc. But ultimately, it seems to come down to: crowd the 6 yard box to make it hard for defenders to get a clear run at the ball. Then just keep whipping it across the 6 yard box with plenty of pace and bend and something'll happen sooner rather than later.
Lush Vlad
Delivery has to be spot on too. Arsenal have Rice, Odegaard and Saka. All brilliant with dead ball delivery. We’ve been crap most the season. But been much improved the last month or so. Bruno suddenly realised he can whip in a mean corner. Tonali now and then. Miley. Hall was good against Palace. Just need to keep Trippier off them when he’s back in

r0cafella
Our set piece efficiency is rancid. How many corners did we have?
Kanj
Liverpool have our # like on blocking off our guys as I’ve never seen us kick balls long and get blocked off more in my life reckon if today was Paris and same players we get at least a point today. We have a proper mental issue that is not good with Liverpool. Says a lot about the cup final tbh. Never seen us that dialed in against them. And I sat in the stands and saw it. Belief and aggression all match.
jackyboy
I think our set piece coach only works on Saturdays
John P
On corners, the number of times we put everyone at the back post, then they all run near post and the ball sails over their heads and out for a goal kick is baffling and angering in equal measure. And we've got a guy working as a full time set piece specialist. Absolutely robbing a living
54
Hilarious that the team managed by a former set-piece coach are bottom of the list
Si67
We are bad around the back post at crosses and both attacking and defending corners - hardly ever anyone there.
