  2. This will lead to the suggestion that since promotion / relegation is pointless, it should be abolished, and we'll get a closed shop. Some might say "well it basically is now anyway" but that's a world away from it actually being a closed shop.
  3. I said Mainoo not Georgie Best.
  4. It's a lot easier when PSR isn't as much of an issue, you already have top players who can play their position and can just move on to the next replacement if he flops. We're in a position where we have to have hit the ground running and be a success with about 90% of our signings.
  5. Big red legacy club. PSR working exactly as it intended
  6. Yea I agree with Ikon that it is much more than just breaking the low block, cause it is about controlling the game against teams like Everton and Fulham who want to frustrate and try to nick a goal. When you control the ball and push them back there is a long way to counter. Similar what Pep has done to Howe many times. And doesnt mean we try to play 5000 passes a game, cause that is not Howe’s style. But crossing more often than not leads to losing the ball and we chase it again. We need quality footballers on the wings, not runners.
  7. Aye I can't see which team of the 17 who were in the PL last season will struggle enough for one of the promoted sides to overtake. The likes of Wolves/Everton/Palace who all struggled for long stretches last season would be comfortably better than the promoted 3 over 38 games. It's ridiculously difficult for anybody to compete now, and the 17 will probably be the same 17 for a long, long time now, with 3 rotating every year. Even them 3 will probably wind up being from the same pool of 6/7 teams. As hilarious as it will be watching sunderland lose most weekends, there should perhaps be some grace allowed to promoted sides in their first season, especially if it's their first season in a long time.

if we sacrified Anderson last summer to survive only to replace him with Ramsey a year later, would we be better for it? If Ramsey can stay fit, i feel like he offers so much that Willock can and can't do.
  14. Barnes still has a book value around £25m so not a lot profit to get from him.

Not sure I agree with that mind. The ball bounces off him quite easily, especially if he's under pressure. Don't think his first touch is all that.

It's been done to death but it's so shit that any club who wants to make the Champions League and stay there have to sell their promising home grown players to stay afloat

Aye, but just looking at last season we were 12-2-5 at home. 6th best home record. I agree, more technical ability could help break those teams that sit back, down -- but i think the real answer is raising the quality in all aspects to play multiple styles or play our main style, better. I like this answer more. It's about evolving and elevating the play. I do not want us our our fans to simply think we should be a possession team and become pass masters - that is not in our DNA. Murphy was electric last season, but it was pinned a lot on his elite-level crossing last season. Ideally, our next step is we find either a better crosser, a better wide forward, or a better dribbler/passer. And any combo of all of that will hopefully evolve the play. Another great post. It was that maddening lay-down job between 8th and 13th where we got ran over by Bournemouth and Fulham. Were ass at home and away v Everton. Were ass away at Palace. Were ass at home v Brighton. In half of those matches, had we taken a chance or two early on (Isak, Gordon....) be a different story.

But who's going to match him for goals and assists and also have much better ball retention? It's not like he passes the ball to the opposition often. A major part of his lower ball retention is due to the fact he tries crosses and shots. Easy for wingers to retain the ball more if they risk possession less but they aren't likely to get near him in assists in that case.
  19. I love Harvey Barnes and his output particularly this season but I would support him being the sacrificial lamb this summer. Realistically if selling Barnes and Willock meant we could get Ramsey, Pedro, Elanga, Guehi and Trafford all though the door that would be a great window and leave us stronger overall. You would no longer have two nailed on left wingers but you'd have players like Pedro and Ramsey who can play that side as well as other positions. Elanga is a player who can go over to the left as well.
  20. Bruno, Big Joe, Tonali Ramsey, Miley, Mainoo midfield sorted

Assume Rogers won't help them as much as selling Ramsey due to him not coming through their academy
