  1. We didn’t though, we spent £35-40M on Barnes, £35M on Livramento and £30M on an obligation to buy on Hall? Not to mention £8M on Minteh and a lot of nominal fees on players for the academy. You’re literally arguing about something that didn’t happen ??‍♂️ all because the main signing we made got banned, not because we didn’t need another midfielder last summer
  2. We also didn't sign Tonali for £65M so what's your point? You're using the fee in Euro's which works out somewhere between £50-55M so close to Diaby's fee. And yes we do have scout's who didnt fancy either Diaby or Kudus at the fee's mentioned.
  3. Diaby was on a similar fee to Tonali and reportedly significantly higher wages Kudus, was over £40 million with add ons and given the league he signed from represented a significant risk. Reported wages In line if not higher than our biggest earners too. I don't think either would've saved us any money, lets be honest it's not that we couldnt afford Tonali. Its that we couldn't afford to have him banned for 10 months.
  4. What do you think an upgrade at RW would have cost exactly?
  5. Id imagine it means the fairly serious stress fracture of his back is healing. I mean there are people out there who lose the ability to walk etc after an injury like this, never mind get back to playing professional football
  6. Never suggested we wouldn't, was more of a reason why we'd demand a premium to sell him above and beyond what may be his perceived market value
  7. Its not just them though, there was also RIce going for £100M+ as a proven PL midfielder. Man Utd have also spent £75-80 million on far inferior players to Bruno in recent windows. Its also not necesarily just his market value to consider but his worth to us, which I'd argue is massive given we havent won a league game without him for 18 months.
  8. More than I think any of us expected tbf
  9. Seen some quotes that we get 30% of the sell on fee that goes to Peterborough as that was part of how they got him from us for such a relatively low fee. Explains it here apparently https://onefootball.com/en/news/ivan-toney-sale-made-public-what-newcastle-united-share-of-transfer-fee-will-be-ifwhen-sold-38891137
  10. that’s apparently the lower end of what Chelsea want for Gallagher and roughly what Man Utd wanted for McTominay ?
  11. Or Caicedo, Rice or Fernandez money, he's more of a sure thing than any of those
  12. He should've rotated in the Man Utd league cup game? FFS you come out with some nonsense at times, but this takes the biscuit like. Reaquaint yourself with the team that started that match, after you’ve flagelated the hell out of yourself, come back into this thread and profusely apologise for the bollocks that you spout ??
  13. I think you’re massively underselling the fees they could fetch, but then you’re also conflating the fees brought in with the amount it would free up in FFP terms too. £50m profit, potentially allows us to buy 3 or more £50m rated players on 5 year contracts as long as we're confident of being able to increase our commercial revenue.
  14. Then go back and watch the interview again. He mentions that we’ll have to trade players, at no point did he mention having to sell one of our better players though.
  15. Which as has been described in great detail by people more knowledgeable than me, is going to significantly less of an issue for us from this summer onwards.
  16. Probably, but it’s the kind of thing that can be addressed in a single window if done cleverly.
  17. They’ve got to be getting close to their ffp limit, even if they sell Gallagher and a few more academy products in the next few windows. I think Bruno is clever enough to see the two clubs respective trajectories too. They are a long way away from being a coherent club
  18. Am I being naive or just being influenced by my previous background. But I struggle to conceive a world whereby Saudi ownership allows their Crown Jewels to be taken from them by a Qatari entity. Unless you’ve spent time in that part of the world or worked with people from there, I think it’s difficult to understand the mutual hatred that exists between them. The naive RAF Junior officers and Civil servants who thought they’d be fine to share a training Squadron for training their Typhoon pilots and engineers, became quickly and acutely aware of what the two nations thought of each other.
  19. Howe isn’t the only manager who plays in a similar style though, we aren’t the first team to play in this manner. Bielsa, Klopp, Nagelsman and many other managers who are a fan of Gen Gen pressing, could conceivably come in and pick up where Eddie left us in this hypothetical scenario. The issue comes only if this board are like the Shepherd/Hall regime and flip-flop wildly between management styles and playing philosophies, with each subsequent appointment.
  20. From UEFA's website The regulations see clubs subject to squad cost controls for the first time. The cost control rule limits spending on player and coach wages, transfers, and agent fees to 70% of club revenue – the gradual implementation will see the percentage at 90% in 2023/2024, 80% in 2024/2025, and 70% as from 2025/2026. This requirement provides a direct measure between squad costs and income to encourage more performance-related costs. Assessments will be performed on a timely basis and breaches will result in pre-defined financial penalties as well as sporting measures. My worry is this has a similar thought behind it as the current political idiocy that is perpetual economic growth, it may be difficult to grow revenues sufficiently to maintain position, and how many teams are going to be forced to sell players to reduce that ratio by 10% year on year. Also where does the other 30% go? What is the point of making profits if they aren’t able to be reinvested, without incurring "pre-defined financial penalties as well as sporting measures"?
  21. No, it’s more stringent for everybody, will end up with the max spend (Wages and Transfers) being 70% of turnover.
  22. Probably to avoid issues with Castore tbh, can imagine they’re not happy as it is, without all this promo being filmed at St James'
  23. It legitimate, Adidas have been doing loads of promo for their new retro Predator boots which are what is dangling around his neck. See also the videos of Isak and the Brazilian duo doing the rounds
  24. As long as they make it out of a material that doesn’t click to hell just looking at it
  25. Some of it has been for the launch of a retro inspired Predator boot relaunch, but it can’t be coincidental the number of retro Newcastle shirts on show. Well fingers crossed anyway
