Colos Short and Curlies
Not a fan of defenders being captain - for the simple reason that they are the ones who should be questioning referees decisions, but that automatically puts them out of position when setting up to defend set pieces. Midfielder or attacker would be my captain's position
KaKa
Defenders are some of the best captains IMO. Love a good strong centre back as captain.
ads
I think we need to make this into a smiley: http://www.independent.co.uk/incoming/article8780964.ece/alternates/w460/75-Maclaren-PA.jpg
Guest
Remember when Allardyce pretty much signed 4 different club captains or something and we still looked rudderless.

ads
The 'leaders' Cacapa, Rozenhal, Geremi and Smith. Come on, now. After that away win at Bolton on the opening day, I got the Champions badges printed on my top, man.

Ally
What a window that was. Allardyce was such a buffoon. And we wonder why Ashley brought in his 'recruitment model'

Raconteur
There's something about that pic that makes me think McClaren is going to leave the match, bleach his hair, get a fat diamond earring and drive a convertible to a nightclub
Guest n4e
The beak on that bloke, kin hell Looks like 'The Brody' Matt Damon wears in Ocean's 13. ''It is not a prop for prop's sake!''

Twinport53
I like how he says its good we are passing the ball, but it's not quick enough tempo

STM
Just talks far more sense than Pardew. Refreshing.
KaKa
Actual real statements that make sense after the game. Food for the soul man. De Jong shedding some light on the approach under Pardew. There was clearly never any intention to try and keep the ball.
STM
It's an obvious dig too.
djmattis
In general, it seems pretty obvious that McClaren is more than just an emotional manager like Pardew. He strikes me as someone who even if he's not the greatest in the world, seem to have some clue about his profession. Pardew literally had one plan when it came to tactics, anything outside that frame came as a surprise to him. And he made people around him clueless on top of that, like he confused them. I'm not going to raise my hands even half the way into the season. But if anything I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and I really hope the team does well this season cause they really need to do something positive soon. Guest
McClaren will give us a style of football imo. No idea if it'll be good or bad yet, but I think he'll have us playing a particular way. Unlike Pardew who was more concerned with what the opposition do. Obviously there'll be games against top teams where he might sacrifice it a bit (see Garry Monk at Arsenal where he said they scrapped their normal game plan to combat them, they won), but overall, I think he's a big improvement. Ronaldo
Yes, he's a definite improvement. The coaching staff looks miles better than last season.
