Anyone think he has a realistic chance of scoring more then Shearer did for us?

How many has he got for us already?

Not a chance, if he even comes close to being consistent over the next year or two he will be bought by a bigger team.

Sick of this to be honest. Sure, Ashley could decide to cash-in in a couple years time (or will be forced to if we go down), but barring that it's far from set in stone he'll leave.

It's not as if he's counting the days until he gets to play for his dream club - he's already doing it and seems to be loving every minute of it. The club has come a long way in the last 15 months and he's a big reason why. Plenty of people on here will say "yeah, but he'll want to win trophies." Carroll will dream of leading Newcastle to glory at Wembley and given his confident demeanor he's likely to think he's capable of doing it. I'm sure he's never pictured himself raising a trophy for Manchester City, but I can bet you he's thought of doing it while wearing the #9 shirt for Newcastle United.

Also, as long as Newcastle's in the PL then he will have every opportunity to play for England, so that's not an issue.

Last season went better than most expected. This season to date is better than expected. Maybe we push through to the end and finish mid-table. Maybe we make a couple more good signings next summer. Maybe we finish in the top-half next season. Who the hell knows, but a little optimism goes a long way.

It's hard to believe that less than 12 months ago he hardly looked capable of making it in the Championship and now he's one of the brightest prospects in England.  I can’t remember a player ever making so much good progress in such a short space of time at Newcastle.

People talking as if he is definitely going to leave

He's a bright prospect who is playing very well and he loves being at his hometown club - can we not just leave it at that? Rather than acting as if it's absolutely nailed on that he'll leave in the next 12 months.

A fair few people on here could see he was talented despite not scoring often...  not to mention being totally isolated up front alone most games.

i would say to carroll, if he goes to chelsea, arsenal, man utd, man city, he isnt going to play. if he goes spurs he would be bench to start, maybe only liverpool he would start. everton are going to be no better.

if we said to the the lad tiote, ben arfa, krul, williamson, showed him the solid spine, and promised 4 players to be solid around this. he would have no need to leave for at least 2 - 3 years

Drogba wishes he was as good as Carroll at 21 tbh :smug:

Drogba's first prolific scoring season was at 24(stats from league 1):

Guingamp 2001–02 Apps 11 Goals 3  Age 23

Guingamp 2002–03 Apps 34 Goals 17 Age 24

Marseille         2003–04 Apps 35 Goals 19 Age 25

Chelsea         2004–05 Apps 26 Goals 10 Age 26

Doesn't mean that Carroll will become better than Drogba, just highlights that Carroll is still very young!

Carroll could also end up as Andy Johnson.  There are some similarities ( but bear in mind that Carroll hasn't finished the season and could well only score a handful the second part of the season).  Andy was at a similar age when he had fantastic season with Palace in the Championship, scoring 32 in all competition.  His first year in the PL he was only a year older than Carroll is now.  He finished that season with 21 goals, although 8 of those were penalties ( a record in the PL).  He hasn't been able to produce such a season since then, only making double digits once with Everton (11 goals).

Put him in that Barcelona team and he makes them perfect. Aerial presence ftw!

Real Madrid needed him more tonight, as they couldn't keep possession he would have been someone they could have hoofed it to. He would have done more for them than Benzema did.
