In all honesty, I really can't see Shay going to Citeh. Could sign a lengthy deal, still win Jack Shit and be no further forward. I believe he genuinely loves this club, the only way I can see him leaving is for a club with genuine aspirations for a title or a cup, and with Hughes, Citeh couldn't even beat Forest ffs. If one of the big 4 comes in, fair enough, he has a chance of some glory, but at Citeh, especially in the time of his career he's in, what's the point?

Joining a club of similar stature to us makes no sense. He's a family man, his kids go to school up here and he loves it. The man will only leave for a genuine shot of glory in the 4 years or so he has left at the top, otherwise I reckpn he might just stay put. Better the devil you know........

So the same bloke wrote both articles but there's a £30,000 difference in the wages Given is supposed to earn here.

The whole given thing worries me. He is our best player in his position imo nd even though harper could do a steady job he would be a massive loss and we would miss him a few months down the line.

Given in todays market should be worth around 15-20 million (and off the likes of city we could command that fee), when you consider what some players have gone for and the fact he is world class in  his position, but with kinnear/ ashley wanting cash in quick they will probably let him go for around 8 mill and for one of the best keepers in the world and our most valuable player 8 million is a pittance.

Never short of a word to say on how the club is being run at the moment, probably due to Sky`s David Craig`s personal` Shepherd hotline`, Freddie Shepherd did hit the right notes about our number one. Describing him as the club`s heartbeat, the prospective owner of Mallorca said:

"I am only a fan now but like all Newcastle fans I will be distraught if Shay is allowed to leave. He is the heartbeat of the team both on the field and in the dressing room and the loss would be tremendous.

Newcastle fans can only hope that the people who are running the club now realise this. As far as signings in the past 15 years go at Newcastle United, pound for pound Shay is second only to Alan Shearer.'

It's not a slight on them but we had our best seasons in the Premier before either player arrived at Newcastle so Freddie is clearly bigging up signings mad under his tenure as opposed to those under the massively successful Keegan years under John Hall.

Shearer was signed when Hall was chairman.

A senior United source said: "We received a bid for Shay in writing from Manchester City and we dismissed it out of hand.

"It was for between three and four million pounds, which is laughable really when you consider we are talking about the best goalkeeper in the Premier League."

United are incensed by City’s offer, particularly in light of the £9m paid by Sunderland to take Scotland international Craig Gordon to the Stadium of Light last season.

Hughes says he has having problems signing people, I can see why with bids like this.

The odd one out is that the last one is made up, given that Hughes has admitted the bids for the others, and denied the Given one.

The offer has been put in writing according to that report so I'm pretty certain it's genuine.

Dont think it warrants a new thread as it looks a bit of a non-story but:

MANCHESTER CITY targets Craig Bellamy and Shay Given were involved in a tunnel row at Newcastle.

West Ham striker Bellamy launched into a foul-mouthed rant at his former Toon team-mate on the way to the dressing rooms at half-time during Saturday’s 2-2 draw.

Witnesses say Bellamy, 29, who had scored a 29th-minute equaliser, was the aggressor.

A Toon insider said: “Bellamy just went into one but anyone who played with him at Newcastle, as Shay did, would not have been surprised.

“Bellamy was ranting and raving but not making a lot of sense.”

City’s latest £9million bid for Bellamy has been rejected by West Ham.

What a load of crap. On Soccer Saturday it showed them shaking hands and having a sly hug on the way down the tunnel, hardly looked like a ranting and raving session.
