Sir Bobby wasn’t a Geordie then?

Rafalove
In Sir Bobby’s generation I think Geordie was more of a term for people from the north east rather than Tyneside specifically so perhaps he can still be called a Geordie.

Dunno like, i'd class people from Gateshead as Geordies as it's right on the river, any further south i wouldn't. I may be biased though as my Dad was born in Gateshead and brought up in Hebburn. Some will say only north of the tyne. Not that any of it particularly matters anyway. Edited May 22, 2021 by ToonArmy1892

In the '73 Cup Final commentary they were referred to as a "Geordie team" and had "Geordies" on more than one banner in the crowd. Back then round my way (Boldon), you'd get a punch in the mouth for calling a Sunderland fan a makem. It was regarded as an insult.

Always seem to get something in my eye when I watch this Brilliant, brilliant player. Unfortunately he was not the brightest and the people he socialised with and classed as his friends, totally milked off him imho with little care for his best interests. Spent time in his company a couple of times in the 80s and he was good crack, daft as a brush and loved talking to anyone. Even now he still is in the newspapers for the wrong reasons at regular intervals. It could have been so different if he hadn’t chosen the bright lights of London instead of Man Utd. Honestly believe Ferguson was the right person to manage him and ensure his off field problems were curtailed. Mind he did still have a very decent career, just could have been a totally brilliant one.
ToonArmy1892
What the fuck was Hoddle thinking not taking him to France 98, even if past his best he was still better than everyone else, bar maybe Shearer. I met him once. I wasn't very well and he took time out to visit me ( not just me ) in hospital. He will never know how much he cheered me up and I'll never forget it. I love the fella. Wolfcastle
@PaulMcCarthy66: Gordon Strachan won @theofficialfwa Footballer of the Year that season. Still not quite sure how Gazza missed out TBF. Gazza probably missed out because he basically only played in cup games in the second half of that season and Strachan played nearly 50 times in all comps. Also Leeds finished 4th and Spurs midtable.
