nufcblog are running with this:

The Guardian is reporting that a  source close to the goings on to find a buyer for the club has revealed that Mike Ashley may still be in control at St James’ Park next season.

The news is that the due diligence that would-be buyers have completed, has shown some troubling things about Newcastle’s financial liabilities.

The source said:

“The process is moving extremely slowly, there is still genuine hope of a sale but it’s not looking imminent,”

“Newcastle comes with a lot of baggage.”

If the sale is not completed by the end of August then there’s no way a buyer would come in, because they’d be burdened with the massive problem of paying the wage bill,  which is still around £62M a year.

And Ashley has done nothing to reduce that wage bill by selling players, or even getting any new players in.

Indeed we have had no manager since the end of the season, and it’s unlikely he will appoint Alan Shearer. The fans have lost all confidence in Ashley and LLambias trying to run a football club.

He will like re-appoint Joe Kinnear, if he does decide to retain control of the Newcastle club, and while we have nothing at all against Joe, he would hardly be a popular choice for the Newcastle faithful.

“The fear is we could end up in a worse financial mess than Leeds did.”

So that’s probably one reason the Newcastle sale seems to have suddenly stalled these last 10 days or so.

I honestly think £100m is expensive for NUFC, i think around £75/80m would be more realistic, due to us not owning the land the stadium is built on, the debt & wage bill. The only assets we really have are the players, the training ground and the youth academy.

It was just a few seasons ago everyone was moaning about becoming a mid table club in the prem.

Now just having an owner and a manager would suit me just fine.

So unreal.

It really is unreal. Everytime you think things can't get worse, they get worse. In one way or another everything has to fail for us. That last hope, the feeling that a turnaround in our fortunes could be just around the corner, is fading away, slowly but surely.

Welllllllllllllll I heard that SJH in all his shame of starting this mess off is going to Offer Ashley a full refund, the only issue is Ashley cannot find the receipt, he does have the original bag but after 28 days thats not good enough.

We've been taken over by a bunch of pixies for the price of a magic hatstand and a cake.  Well a Pavlova.  Does that count as a cake?  It think it does.  Saruman the White is expected to unveiled as boss tomorrow.  As a plus we've arranged a friendly replacement with the Orcs of Eisengard who have promised to behead Nolan and gut Alan Smith on the field of battle / play, guaranteeing the first sell out at St James' in years.

Someone said before that when Chawke got Sunderland they did so with Quinn as the front, someone the fans knew and who already had a grip of the club's workings inside out. Perhaps they'll approach Shepherd...
