It may be like shagging a prostitute but when that prostitute looks like Cheryl tweedy people can pretend they arent impressed all they want but really they are jealous as f***!

If Cheryl Tweedy is the Champion's League, who's the Carling Cup?

A random pornstar; it probably feels good, but it's not much of an achievement.

honestly my opinion of man city dropped with how they treated dunne, long serving player helped save them from relegation more than once and thrown out the door by them and replaced by someone i dont rate too highly anyway in lescott. I do believe at one stage not long after the takeover their chief exuctive said something along the lines of the likes of dunne don't roll of the tongue in hong kong or something similar

I liked Dunne's Press Conference at Aston Villa where he said Hughes told him about the offer, Dunne asked what would happen if he decided to stay and fight for his place, and Hughes said, "well actually, we need the money".

Main feature on Football Focus right now.

Can't help thinking that there's a fair few amongst the Geordie faithful who wouldn't be batting an eyelid were we to be in the shoes of Citeh fans right now, rather than expressing their abhorrence of the way money is corrupting the beautiful game.

Our current predicament seems in a strange sort of way to be helping people see things in a different light now, but go back three or so years and we'd have chewed our right arms off to have an Abramovich or rich oil shiekh come in to SJP and "do us a Chelsea".

Cannot understand how some people show such childish envy of Man C by sneering about 'buying the League' etc.

Isn't that exactly what KK tried to do back in the mid-90s, when we bought Ferdinand, Barton, Ginola, Shearer and Asprilla ? Nobody who supports NUFC would have complained if we had pipped Man U in 96, even though at that time we were out-spending them...

It is just NOT possible to win trophies these days WITHOUT spending a large amount of money on players, but that doesn't mean you should ignore your own Academy system, which is where I differed from KK who placed far less importance on it - spending doesn't guarantee success(witness 96..)but in our case, it should have done.

Once we stopped progressing as a club, we fell behind the others and OUT of the top 4, and once that happened we started losing revenue, which meant we fell further behind because top players no longer

saw us as an attractive destination ; that HAS to change in future years if the club is to get anywhere NEAR challenging for trophies.

I'm pleased for the Man C fans because, as most of them will tell you, they are mainly composed of Mancunians or people from that locality whereas we all know that their rival neighbours are followed by people from well outside the NW - also, they have lived in Man U's shadow for many years and , as younger fans on here will discover if the Mackems make progress and we fail to get promoted, that is not a pleasant feeling...

The whole 'all man utd fans dont come from manchester' is a tedious myth by the way.

Agreed. There are a lot of man u fans from outside manc, but there are a lot more who support them in manc than there are who follow city.

Guest sicko2ndbest

BTW Man City have spent millions and millions on new talent this season, but MOM for me yesterday was a certain Craig Bellamy. He seems to be sharper than ever. Oh what could have been :(

Why not let them buy the league?

Everyone else who ever won it has.

I think the problem is most other teams barring Chelsea who have done it have earned that money themselves. That is what I think has put most peoples noses out of joint.

Good post. I think you're right that many sneering at Man City right now really are just doing so because they're being childish and envious. Blackburn had Jack Walker and won the Premiership. Chelsea have had Abramovich, ditto. We had Sir John Hall, he two Freddies, loads of wonga, but we blew it and we've been in gradual decline for a few years now, accelerated by the current Ashley regime.

Citeh are one of the few clubs who rival NUFC for recurrent melodrama and intrigue off the pitch. Over the past few years Citeh fans have had to endure various highs and lows including two relegations, the excitement of a Keegan promotion, the lows of Stuart Pearce's amateur hour, the media frenzy around Shinawatra's arrival and the accompanying political farce, Sven coming and going and now they're in total fantasy football territory courtesy of their current Abu Dhabi owners having splashed out silly money this summer. They've spent years feeling like the Premiership's media whipping boys, frequently ridiculed and undermined.

If they buy the title, then they won't be the first, and I certainly wouldn't begrudge the fans a bit of joy from that either, but I can't say I feel comfortable with where this scale of spending is taking the game of football more generally.

I'm well aware of that, but the point that most City fans are from the NW is still valid and Man U DO have more fans from outside their region than most clubs do - that is undeniable.

If they buy the title with all their money (which they probably will, quite soon) they are still only the SECOND club to do it this way.

IE, "completely" with non-earned income, given to them from outside football.

There is only them and Chelsea..  The likes of Manchester United, ourselves, etc, used almost exclusively, money we had EARNED . . . and a bit of 'future earnings' (loans) too!  But we all lived in that real business world. Chelsea and Man City do NOT.
