Steve Harper rejoins NUFC as Academy coach

Recommended Posts

People expect him to be good? He's 37 and spent most of his career sitting on the bench. It's the clubs fault for not getting in another keeper, can't really blame Harper for lacking in sharpness and being at retirement age. He wants to play and if the club is going to offer him the chance to play he's going to take it. We need a new, young keeper next summer at the latest.

Agree entirely.

Not expecting him to be good does not mean he can't be criticised though.

Tbf it balanced out. He never shouldve saved that one that crossed the line & he shouldve done far better with their 2nd goal.

2nd one took a flick off Steve Taylor so Harper reckoned. still be nice to see him dive sideways instead of falling on his nose.

Good bloke, shite keeper.

Might put an end to the 'he's the best sub goalie around' comments.

People used to say that five years ago when it was true, I don't think anyone was under the impression he was good enough going into tonight.

He didn't save the one that crossed the line though

He did enough to make the lino not be sure. Cracking effort.

I think they ended a few years ago tbf, just after he was one of the best back up keepers in the league.

The disallowed goal in the first was the usual pathetic Harper push out to the opposition player. Chalked off so we got out of jail.

Didn't save the disallowed goal in the second half. It was over the line.

Pathetic at their second goal that counted.

On the plus side he only kicked the ball out the park from bye kicks on a couple of occasions tonight.

If Harper hadn't got a hand to the ball that crossed the line it wouldn't have been in any doubt and would have counted, the second would have beat most keepers.

He's old and slow but we already know that. Pointless talking about it after this game.

Spot on. He was also young and slow once upon a time.
