Realistic Transfer Targets Summer 2010

Freddy Adu - what the fuck happened to him?

Also, any leads on Bojan Djordjic, Cherno Samba and Daniel Braaten would be helpful.

Braaten is doing well for Toulouse and is regularly featured for Norway. Still haven't figured out how to keep his "on" button on all the time, mind. Goes from absolute fantastic in one match to absolute dross in the next and back to absolute fantastic again.

Adu couldn't get a game at Benfica, and iirc he was involved in some off-the-field misbehavior. He's now on loan to Aris for this season and the next. He's still young and has shown flashes of ability, but doesn't seem to have the mental strength to make it at a high level, imho.

I think one of my first ever posts on this forum was me saying I thought we should sign Braaten back in 2006. Time flies.

Didn't he play for Bolton for a while? Left winger?

Yes he did. He's mainly a RW, but can also play up front.

Bojan Djordjic actually won the title with AIK in Sweden last year, and was one of their most influential players. About his level though, first time in his career he's actually produced something in terms of football rather than headlines.

Maybe it is just Bolton that is rubbish.

They didn't have any single player with a meaningful amount of creativity until they got Lee and Coyle added Wilshere/Weiss/Holden. I actually think they have a quite decent side right now, although they need time to gel and absorb the new manager's tactics (which they don't quite have).

Lee :smitten:

He's been one of my favorite players since he made his pro debut and I'm ridiculously happy that he's making it in the prem.

We should definitely look to sign him if Bolton go down. I would :fwap: for a full calendar year.

NEWCASTLE United boss Chris Hughton may turn to Manchester United young gun Tom Cleverley next season.

The Chronicle understands that, while Hughton has batted away transfer talk in the last week after receiving public backing from his board, he and recently appointed chief scout Graham Carr have begun the process of drawing up two different lists of targets for next season, pending promotion.

A United source said: “It is looking like a case of ‘business as usual’ and behind the scenes they are sticking to their transfer plans.

“Next season is also being assessed and there are two different scenarios.

“Chris is trying to build for next season but knows the club’s longer-term strategy is to bring in youngsters in a similar manner to Arsenal.”

The 20-year-old England under-21 star will be looking to add to his first-team experience again next term, and St James’ Park would be an exciting proposition for a loan deal next season – especially if United regain their Premier League place.

Hughton was interested in Cleverley last season, but the Old Trafford youngster opted to sign for Watford on loan in August, with the deal quickly extended until the end of this campaign after making an instant impression at Vicarage Road.

Cleverley missed last weekend’s clash with Newcastle due to suspension, but has chipped in with 10 goals this season from midfield in 25 appearances.

Hughton was an interested spectator at Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium on Tuesday night and watched Cleverley star for the England under-21s against Greece, alongside Geordie Andy Carroll.

Just last week Hughton admitted he was an admirer of the Basingstoke-born player ahead of the trip to Hertfordshire.

Hughton was also able to run the rule over another player who has previously interested him, teenage winger and Arsenal youngster Jack Wilshere, who also starred for Stuart Pearce’s side.

Hughton enquired about Wilshere earlier this season but was told the young Emirates Stadium star was only interested in playing at top-flight level, and a move to Bolton Wanderers quickly followed as the 18-year-old signed for Owen Coyle’s side.

United also remain committed to unearthing young raw talent from across Europe and their scouting network across the Continent has remained in operation throughout the Mike Ashley era.

Signings in the mould of Hungarian youth international Tamas Kadar, Slovene Haris Vuckic and Swede Samuel Adjei are set to continue.

Vuckic could make a comeback on Tuesday night when Newcastle’s second string take on FA Vase holders Whitley Bay at Hillheads Park (7.30).

Great to have a long term strategy but we need to get this type of player instead of talking about it and also players too keep us in the top flight .

I've just been watching that O'hara in todays Portsmouth game and he was impressive, he has also been impressive alot this season. A real box to box midfielder who can act as a play maker. I think we should atleast have a look at him.
