Pardew's man of the match

Not being malicious but he would say that after making what appeared to be a match defining substitution.

IMO - MoM goes to Colo by a whisker from Krul.

But then again they are always our best performers so maybe it was good man management to talk him up in the press.

Now that we have found good use for Perch, he needs to be kept away from CB though.

My MoM also goes to Colo, even my gf who isnt a footballfan said: That Coloccini guy he is everywhere.

I havent been the biggest fan of Perch, but he did good yesterday,

Maybe Pardew has found his 'Phil Neville-type' utility cover player? He's arguably got two useful ones - Perch and Ryan Taylor.

I'd never want to see Perch at CB, or even RB again though. Happy to see him feature in a central midfield role though, for now.

Impressed that our squad players are putting in performances that do enough to win us games while we cope with absences, injuries and suspensions.

To be fair to Perch, his reputation was so low that it was inevitable that a couple of half-decent performances would have people giving him some praise.

As they've pointed out, we're quick to slate players for putting in non-performances, so it's only fair that we give them credit when they do a decent job in a match.

Did fine in the second half yesterday. Looks like that could be his best position and would rather have him in there than Raylor. Decent in the tackle and keeps it simple. His turn and then release of the ball at Fulham for our second goal was a very good piece of football. Obviously there was still a lot to be done before Hatem scored, but I thought he deserved some credit for that.

James Perch may be a fringe player at Newcastle, but the utility man feels he would have been "mad" to leave the club in the transfer window.

The 26-year-old was the subject of an approach from an unnamed club last month but manager Alan Pardew rejected the offer.

Leon Best was also linked with a move to Celtic but Pardew is short of cover at the moment - and that could mean his squad men playing a vital role between now and the end of the season.

Perch came off the bench to help secure a 2-0 win at Blackburn in midweek and has reiterated his desire to stay at the club.

"I don't know why you would want to leave here," Perch told the Shields Gazette.

"You'd be mad to leave a team that looks like it's really going somewhere with the best fans in the country behind you.

"Why would you want to go somewhere on loan, whether it was true or not? We saw it with Bestie not wanting to go to Celtic, and I don't see why he would.

"He's playing at Newcastle in a good team. It's exciting times at the moment here."

Excitement

That excitement could not have been predicted in the summer, when things looked bleak after the departures of Kevin Nolan, Jose Enrique and Joey Barton.

But Newcastle are now just three points behind Chelsea in the race for a Champions League spot and Perch feels the team have proved their point.

"The people who talked about that are people you probably won't see or hear now," said Perch. "We have stuffed that down their throats. We knew that in the dressing room that we had a good team and a good squad.

"The togetherness of the squad's unbelievable. This is what happens when you have a good squad and good belief.

"The fans are in on it too, and they came all the way to Blackburn on a cold Wednesday night.

"It's superb, you have to look at them and think 'fair play, you've came a long way to support the boys'."

The big question now is whether Newcastle are capable of reaching even greater heights and possibly bringing Champions League football back to Tyneside.

"We haven't discussed league positions just yet," added Perch. "We go game by game, and check the league table after it and move on to the next game. I'm sure we'll look at it closer towards the end of the season to see where we are."

When coming on from the bench in recent games, he hasn't looked like he's completely shitting himself, unlike earlier on in his NUFC career where he looked like the worlds most nervous man. I just hope this isn't the kind of thing where 1 fuck up will shatter his confidence. He's doing a decent job as a sub and I'm content for him to continue on in this manner, though I can't say I expect anything too great from him.
