Guest neesy111
Somebody should do a formula that also takes into account squad strength, quality of the rest of the league, backing in the transfer market etc. I genuinely want to do this. How about points per net spend?

AliGupter
Somebody should do a formula that also takes into account squad strength, quality of the rest of the league, backing in the transfer market etc. I genuinely want to do this. How about points per net spend? Doesn't take into account strength of squad inherited... Would have to factor in something like average minimum expected position, or how that has changed over time, like when Keegan arrived it was effectively about 40th, but when he left it was top 2/3. Robson would be something like 12th to 4th. Pardew 17th to 7th or something along those lines. Souness went from maybe 6th to 13th or whatever, Dalglish 4th to 10th. Or take into account actual finishing positions and how they changed over time. Combine this with amount spent on players which should be separate from net spend but both should be included as both show different things, or even things like average cost of first team player bought. I've gone too far.
AliGupter
Goals scored/conceded per £ spent. Average attendance change with the manager. Decibel level with that manager. Mentions in national press relative to "rivals". Number of shirts sold per month during the manager's reign.

AliGupter
Average finishing position of each player that left the club. Average change in food and drink bought in the ground during the manager's reign. Job satisfaction levels in Newcastle Upon Tyne and the surrounding areas during the manager's reign. % of signings that played over 25 first team league games for the club. Number of foreign players bought that still live in the area after retiring. Percentage of players who went into management after retiring. Number of mentions in big foreign media outlets such as Marca and L'Equipe. Average number of points finished behind/ahead in the highest "dreamt" position, so last season for Pardew it would be maybe 8th, this season 4th. Under Keegan it would be 1st in 1996 but in 1994 it would be something like 6th. Robson 01/02 would be 6th or so and 03/04 might be 3rd/4th. Average percentage of people wearing replica shirts whilst walking round Newcastle and the surrounding areas during the manager's reign.
Jayson
From Happy Face on TT - Premier league points won only (top flight), no cups.... 61.54% - Kevin Keegan (143/78/30/35) 53.19% - Sir Bobby Robson (188/83/51/54) 50.00% - Alan Pardew (46/18/15/13) 47.44% - Glenn Roeder (52/21/11/20) 45.24% - Kenny Dalglish (56/19/19/18) 41.27% - Sam Allardyce (21/7/5/9) 39.58% - Chris Hughton (16/5/4/7) 39.39% - Graeme Souness (55/16/17/23) 36.84% - Kevin Keegan 2 (19/5/6/8) 36.59% - Ruud Gullit (41/11/12/18) 34.72% - Joe Kinnear (24/5/10/9) 20.83% - Alan Shearer (8/1/2/5) Interesting that. Our current form this season under Pardew is nearly on track with Keegans best reign then if you work it out. This season so far we've won 59% of available points. AliGupter
How the fuck are you supposed to measure "expectation"? It's easy when you think about it. I personally expected top 12 this season, so we are obviously well on course to smash that, although now if we finished 8th it would be a terrible disappointment. Which brings us onto another criteria, the way expectations change over the course of a season. In 08/09 we're looking at top 10 at the start of the season then by the end 16th would have been well above expectations, although we had 4 different managers during that season so it's hard to judge. Whereas this we've gone from 12th or so to 7th as an expectation which is a huge change really.

Mick
Bobby To be fair those stats are pretty close together, Robson is only 6% better than Dalglish. Dalglish took over a team that had finished 2nd top and was on target to do the same, he left the club 13th. Sir Bobby took over a team which had just finished 13th and left a team which had just finished 5th.
eliassenfredrik
Can you imagine him starting Shola tomorrow. That would be absolutely criminal and perhaps one of the most stupid decisions football has ever seen. I try to tell myself surely this can't happen, but I can actually see it. M4
As was discussed last week, we're not playing particularly well even when we win. Put a better team than the likes of Villa opposite and that's what you get.

Guest Dontooner
Aye , But people are excited we are 5th and can get a CL spot. They seem to think what translates on the pitch doesnt matter in the long season. Yatata about the best players being away ignoring how we being performing on the pitch irregardless. The sheer difference between one team that is consistent and playing good football while getting results and Newcastle Hoof and cross to score But cant open teams up in open play. Never a top 4 team tbh just do a proper comparison with the football played on the pitch.

Put a better team than the likes of Villa opposite and that's what you get. Nah, we are playing great football all season. I fucking said this couple of days back and got loads of stick. We have been poor but winning. Individual brilliance and luck has won us games. Perch, Danny and Obe should never be playing against Spurs.
