I've seen magpies and assorted other birds on football pitches at various matches.  There was a woodcock on the pitch that was unable to fly away and which Martins picked up and took off the pitch, who smuggled that one in?

Have to say Howard Webbs performance was very poor. How he missed that corner when Jonas slicked it off the defender was ridiculous.

He was ridiculous. 3 minutes at the end of the first half, and 5 minutes at the end of the second. If you think that game was stopped for 8 minutes across the game then you're not fit to do Year 2 Maths, nevermind referee a PL game.

Sunderland Uni is decent, even better for IT and Media. Shame its in Sunderland.

Aye the Uni was not an issue BUT when you ventured beyond that, it was horrid - especially for someone with a brown face, horrible place

When I was there they were giving out personal attack alarms to all students - male and female - as there had been a surge in students being attacked as they apparently didn't like people who were capable of reading.

If it was one of our fans who took the magpie in they shouldn't went for the boring option.

Would have been much more impressive if they released an emu onto the pitch after Nolan's goal.

More impressive if Rod Hull's corpse done a streak.

Anyone seriously debating the idea that one of our lot brought a bird in needs their head checking

Birds at football grounds are not an uncommon occurance due to the fact that the vast majority of football grounds are open air. It's amazing really.

what an amazing concept but it doesn't fit the louise taylor scandal out of nowt model

1st half yes because of the two stoppages for Elmo and Smith.  2nd half was utter joke though.  Shows what a homer he is.

Mackem on Facebook just said we were the worst team they've seen at stadium of s**** this season. x 1000

Considering we thoroughly dominated large parts of the game, i'd say that means sunderland must be the worst team to play there this season.

The were nothing but long ball merchants.

You can't take a bottle of coke into the match man, how has someone taken a live bird in?  If you wanted to catch a specific breed of bird for a certain date, how would you go about it, have a quick think and consider if you think you'd be able to catch one and keep it alive until the moment you wanted to chuck it on the pitch.

Erm, one of them managed to get a kitchen knife in.

Have you never seen a magician pull a dove from some orifice or other?

You make it sound like magpies are rare, if someone wanted to do that then they could easily.

There was a magpie on the pitch which appeared to be unable to fly away, what's your explanation?

Hardly exclusive to Newcastle are Magpies though. There was a pigeon on SJP during the Chelsea game that wouldn't move either. If a fan did do what Taylor is claiming then its shocking, but I find it hard to believe. Birds get injured, if it was there an hour before kick off, it probably thought it had found somewhere quiet to rest.

Maybe it was left there last weekend.
