Well most here would be happy/ok and understand the lad has talent, while Afar and Stiffie dont want him here whatsoever and Brummie wants rid due to his wage and attitude tho recognises that he does have talent that could be recaptured.

Anyone who doesnt want Ireland (a proven quality midfielder) here on loan, with a point to prove, low risk and provides another option is f***ing mental.

Other than the low risk part, that point to prove stuff is exactly what we said in the summer.

He's out of his comfort zone, unfortunately, and he's not handling it well. I get the feeling it would have been like this had he gone anywhere - anywhere that isn't Man City, that's the issue.

He's apparently dreadful in training, doesn't want to know. On more than one occasion, he's ruled himself out with iffy sounding illnesses - the last time it was a "virus" and the very same evening he was seen out boozing with Heskey and Ashley Young.

When he came here, someone on the City staff said he was in the top 5 percent in terms of talent there, but the bottom 5 mentally.

Houllier said that any loans out, the other club would have to pay all the wages, and that we'd rather players stayed in the stiffs rather than subsidise them to play somewhere else.

So, five months of Ireland = 70 x 4 x 5 = 1.4m, add on NI, and you're looking at 1.6m. On top of that, there's win bonuses etc etc etc. So, whilst it could be more expensive otherwise, it certainly isn't free.

It's great that Houllier said that "any loans out, the other club would have to pay all the wages", but if there's anyone who is gonna keep his wallet away till we get the right deal, it's Mike...double edge sword to be honest

Guest pont-toon

reckon this one will go right down to the wire on Monday

when asked about imminent signings on the radio Newcastle interview earlier this evening he said nowt imminent but is expecting things to hot up on Monday as both buying and selling clubs attempt to get "best value"

he also mentioned he had been taken 2 calls today regarding players whose moves to other clubs had broken down.

gonna be busy on here on Monday methinks !

Get him in on loan with a reasonable fee to buy up front, like we did with Ben Arfa.  If he is good then we win, if not cut him loose.

Was he ever mates with Joey btw?

well, if Gosling's fucked I'd change my mind on this but still.. Can anybody realistically see Ireland come here and instantly improve our attacking play after two seasons of doing nothing?

Who knows? If he's happy and settles in quickly we may see the Ireland from a couple of seasons ago, or the opposite.

If he's a loan he's a risk worth taking.
