Phillipe Auclair on Guardian's football weekly saying in france everyone is surprised how successful he's been, apparently they thought he was good but not as good as he's been here and that he wouldn't settle in so quickly. If that's the opinion in france can't hurt his international standings, as I imagine would have been his main worry.

Want to make his mind up. The same fella called him a great player and said most of France were wondering what he was doing here not so long back.

His opinion, and the consensus in France may be two different things.

There's still a big discrepancy. If they thought he was far too good for us surely they expected him to play reasonably well in our colours. He's hardly been phenomenal.

Of course, but still football is about opinions. The feeling I get (from my limited exposure to French journalists) is that they somewhat underrated Cabaye, and saw him more as a good cog in a brilliant side. You have to remember that the headlines and attention was often given to Sow, Hazard, and Gervinho with that Lille side.

He's now left that team for an inferior side and still kept up a similar level of performance/importance. Yes he hasn't been phenomenal, but he's shown some real potential, when he's been good he has been very good.

I'd liken it to our CCC winning year when Nolan picked up the plaudits, but Coloccini was just important.

I thought he'd just gone off in a huff. Looked like he just had a tantrum as a result of the tackle and decided he wanted to be stretchered off. Kinda like Mr Burns when he was in the army .

'Haven't you won the war yet?'

'You said you were dead!'
