Newcastle United vs Everton - 05/11/11 @ 12:45pm - live on Sky

No real reason to change the team and with the way the defence is playing neither full back will be dropped for sat, the system is working. I thought Raylor did really well the other night and Simpson looked better than he has done recently. Injuries or a change in approach will bring Santon into the lineup (same goes for Marv and Ben Arfa) but to be honest it's good that we haven't had to rush things and throw him straight in. There mere presence of Santon is forcing the two lads at full back to play for their place.

Away from home like the other night Obertan certainly provides a very effective outlet with his pace and he was much better with his ball retention and far fewer sloppy passes. Be interested to see how he goes if as expected he starts in this home match. Seems very much like a confidence player and if he starts to have a real go at full backs we might be onto something.

Pretty much agree with everything in that.

I can't understand why you'd want to take either full back out at the moment.  Unbeaten and the best defence in the Premier League.  If it ain't broke...

Regarding Obertan - hoping with more match experience (he only got 14 games over 3 years for Man Utd), he'll gain more confidence in taking on full backs.  He's got the pace to burn and there were a few times against Stoke where he knocked it long and tried to get past the defender.

Obertan did more than enough against Stoke to prevent him being dropped IMO. We might have two or three better players on the bench than the ones on the pitch, but their time will come. We have to keep the morale up by rewarding those players who have got us to third in the league.

I've had the 'you haven't played anyone' digs thrown my way today

  Yeah I've had a few of them too. What are we supposed to be comparing ourselves to Man U and Citeh? Almost every side in the league will go to both the Manchester clubs and get turned over. If we go and lose there will we suddenly be a shit side. I think people are just waiting for us to fail and therefore keep moving the goalposts for the inevitable "I told you so" when each time we show some quality and win they have to come out with something different.

Was mental. Steven Taylor would have been a much better bet out there!

Everton officials are requesting supporters travelling to Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon to arrive earlier than usual due to searching procedures that will be undertaken on entry to the stadium.

St James' Park is a venue for next summer's Olympics and there is a requirement from LOCOG (London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games) to carry out a number of test events to trial their search capability prior to the start of the games.

It means all of the visiting Everton supporters will be searched at each of the six away turnstiles (numbers 89-94), to the standard required for the Olympic football events at St James' Park in 2012.

This will include a meet and greet away from the turnstiles where supporters will be required to empty their possessions into a A4 sized plastic bag prior to a full search at the turnstiles.

Bag searches will ushered to one side to prevent any backlog and travelling female Evertonians will be channelled into a separate lane.

There will be crowd control barriers under the crowd corridor to direct supporters to the search area and additional signage will be in place.

There will be two search stewards for each turnstile in addition to the stewards at the meet and greet area explaining the search procedure prior to fans entering the stadium.

Amnesty bins for alcohol will be provided away from the turnstiles to allow supporters to dispose of any cans or bottles. Persons found with prohibited articles (drugs, weapons, fireworks etc) will be liable to arrest.

Please note the home supporters entering the turnstiles adjoining the away entry gates are also being subjected to search.

Evertons early season form is shit, but looking at it, it includes losses to Liverpool, Chelsea, Man U, Man C...

Away from home they have won at Fulham and Blackburn, could be a tough game as usual. Still, lets hope we come out flying with our recent attitude and take it to them early.

Heart says 2-1 win, head says 2-2 draw.

Both those away matches they won in injury time.  Blackburn was especially lucky as they won a last minute penalty after Blackburn already missed one.

Won't be an easy match by any means, but our team is better than theirs and they have looked very toothless upfront.

Didn't Blackburn miss two?

Should be looking to beat these, although a draw wouldn't be a disaster. Still see these as the biggest competition for 7th and a (hopeful) European spot.

Would be massively disappointed if they took our unbeaten record.

Arteta scored that pen as well.

Still think it'll be a tight game.
