The only doubt we had over Pardew was whether he was instructing his players to be more direct or whether it was a by product of lacking confidence and not following instructions.

Now we know Pardew WANTS us to play direct, s**** football I honestly have lost all faith in him. Call me knee-jerk, I don't care.

Direct football doesn't always have to be shite. With the right players it can be extremely effective and entertaining, especially in England.

I wouldn't take words quoted in the Sun as gospel tbh. I simply don't (want to) trust the tabloids. Still going to wait on the Le Parisien interview.

Mind you, I'm more interested to see what he has to say in La Parisian tomorrow.

I'm assuming these are taken from that.

I'm assuming Brenner interviewed Hatem himself for that piece in the Sun.

Never assume anything, as you only make an ass out of you and me.

Yeah but we're not playing good direct football. We're playing fucking wank football that doesn't suit the players, and marginalising our most talented players by doing so.

Concerned by those quotes tbh. I remember him saying Pardew promised him (and everyone) a certain type of football, and it's not what he's described there.

Don't know where the fuck this relentless long-ball shit has come from, tbh. We didn't use it earlier in the season, and it doesn't work now that we are.

Bizarre and infuriating.

It's come from Pardews brain. A brain living inside 80's porn.

Ben Arfa's had his softly-softly bedding in period after the injury - he's been back since September and it's now 2012. the only way he can go from his current level of match fitness to getting back in some kind of peak creative form is having a run of games, where he starts week in, week out. Something like what Obertan has had - 17 games with very little to show for it.

Either way we'll see how Pardew responds tomorrow night.

It's only entertaining when your winning.

The worst part of this, is that it doesn't benefit our better players very much. Most of our lads can play a bit.

It would literally be impossible to never assume anything, ever.

Hypothetical here...

If it were to go all tits up (calm down Pards) for the rest of the season and if we were ever to get rid of Pardew, I wouldn't mind Brendan Rogers as manager at all. Sure he'd get us playing nice football.

I've been saying for weeks now that Pards is now playing 80's football. We very rarely play through the middle and the ball is hit vast distances and hence we put ourselves under pressure through lack of posession. Every long pass becomes a 50/50.

Depends on what type of direct you mean.......

Real Madrid for example are very direct, does anyone find them boring?

But yh i agree with Sewelly its just w*ank Stoke long ball baby back Bullsh*t, also coincedently we won more games playing the other way and got the most out of more of our players......

Playing Santon, Colo, Cabaye, Ben Arfa and it shouldnt be too hard to play some decent football but Pardew obviously disagrees....

Unfortunatly now this has came out less than 24 hrs before the game i get the feeling Pardew will use it as an excuse to bench him again ( like he needed one of those anyway)

So the template has gone from Arsenal to Stoke?

:jones:

I wouldn't say he deserves his chance any more than Ferguson, Vuckic or Sammy to be honest.

He does though because he's a far greater footballer. Absolutely eons ahead of any of them, and Obertan.

Do you propose we give all of our new signing the Santon/HBA treatment, because they "havn't proven themselves" with us yet?

Point taken but no obviously I'm not proposing that. Ben Arfa broke his leg horrendously, there's a big difference. I'd put Santon and Ferguson straight in ahead of Simpson and R.Taylor without doubt.

Might aswell go in for Martinez on that logic. He built the foundation for that club and will play decent football all the way until his team finally get relegated.

Ok, let's look at the players. I'm sure a fair few would consider this our most likely starting Xl:

Krul - Woeful with the ball at his feet.

Simpson - Enough said.

Colo - Superb on the ball, great at bringing the ball out of defence.

Williamson - Poor on the ball.

Ryan Taylor - Hopeless at carrying the ball; strikes it really well.

Obertan - Absolutely f***ing crap.

Cabaye - Superb on the ball; frequently has difficulty imposing himself. Will improve in time.

Tiote - Very average on the ball; frequently gives it away in dangerous areas.

Jonas - Superb close control; passing and being required to impart any pace on the ball exposes his massive lack of talent.

Ba - Our best striker and arguably our most important player alongside Colo. Thrives primarily on crosses - high and low.

HBA - Provides a strong argument to keep the ball down. Huge question mark over his ability to deliver consistently.

It doesn't provide a great argument to play a short passing game.

It's percentages football, only the percentages are stacked against us because our players aren't suited to it.

HATEM BEN ARFA insists that he will continue to play the “waiting game” when it comes to getting his shot at first team recognition with Newcastle United.

Ben Arfa admits he is “sad” not to be on the pitch yet is hoping that 2012 brings more first team chances for him.

He said: “I would like to be part of it.

“The most important thing is that I give everything for the team when I’m on the pitch, to do my best to help the team.

“When I came on, even when I’ve only got five to ten minutes on the pitch, I need to show what I can do.

“I need to be decisive for the team when I can, when I’ve got an opportunity.”

Ben Arfa though does not want his personal disappointment to seep into the dressing room and cause any unrest.

He said: “Inside I’m sad not to be on the pitch.

“I’m trying not to share my sadness with other people.

“Obviously I would rather be on the pitch and not being on the pitch makes me a bit upset.”

Ben Arfa damaged his ankle during a pre-season friendly against Kansas City back in July.

And admits it has been a slow road back to recovery.

Yet he insists he is now 100% fit.

He said: “I knew at the start that it would take time, but it has been four months now and I feel that now I’m ready, I’m completely fit.

“And I feel like I’m able and ready to play more on the pitch than I have done so far.”

You can add Santon in there too like

And Tiote is not "very average on the ball" ffs, he gets caught out when he starts going on daft twirling all over the place, but he quite clearly has very good ball control.

His passing is often very poor. Especially when he's required to do something with it at home.

I would'nt call his passing poor, inconsistent yes but not poor......

Not a single one of those quotes suggest he is "happy to wait". Typical misleading title.

Edit***

Also would anyone disagree that Hatem probably has a far better cross on him than any other current winger in the squad??

Simply has to start tonight, desperately need his creativity to unlock Manchester United's defensive. There centre backs will be laughing if we play the long ball hoofing that we have recently. Fwiw I don't think Pardew will start him tonight, can see him starting against Blackburn in the cup and then maybe starting games after that.
