In the table for prem left backs (since 2012/13), Santon comes 5th in terms of successful tackles, 2nd in terms of goals, and 3rd in terms of chances created. Not too shabby!

how many times has he been out of position defensively?

Ben arfa might have accepted the idea of Cabaye starting ahead of him in the number 10 role, but I'm afraid that won't be the same story if it is Sissoko who replace him, even more if Hatem don't get a start at all.

Might as well just hoy him in the team, front and centre, number 10 for the rest of the season and see what happens.

As a Hatem critic I would agree with this, in fact since the season was effectively over I would have given him a run of gamkes. could do some damage to the Mackems.

Yep, got to try him as number 10 now, IMO no reason why he can't adapt if he knows he's the main man.

He's never convinced me in the number 10 role. Seems to get crowded out by the opposition midfield and then tries to do too much

He might get a game if Gouf is injured.

I can't see how Cabaye leaving presents HBA with more opportunities though. They are vastly different players.

Sissoko moves central, Ben Arfa back in his favoured position.

Yeah, but we have created a forward role that Cabaye was occupying. Also, I'm hoping he won't feel the need to try as hard if he knows he's playing for a while.

Look at the 5th place season, the amount of little passes and one-twos he played with the forwards was brilliant. And he interchanged beautifully with other members of the front 3. I just think that the conclusion that he's not suited for a central role has been reached far too early.

Except of course for the fact that he's a wide player.

True. He's only approaching his 27th birthday. I'm sure he'll learn how to play it at some point.

I'm more than willing for him to be given a chance there as I want him in the side desperately (and surely he must be given a regular start now unless we magically replace Cabaye). Good point about the need to try hard as well actually. He's only ever been given a half or a game here and there to prove himself in the number 10 role and probably needs time to adapt to it fully

OK, to match your nuclear sarcasm... we should use one of our other specialist number tens there instead.

Is that the only formation available then?
