Ended up in Aspers last year before kick off.

Expensive for drinks, but could not get served anywhere else.

Police escort for the mackems is around 10.45 from Central I've been informed.

Wonder if they get "picked off".

I went in the Black Garter one night with 2 other mates while the rest of our group fucked off to the hellhole that is 'Mushroom'.  They wouldn't serve us unless we signed up for the karaoke the following night.  Tried to make us put our phone numbers down too and told us to forget about setting foot in there again if we didn't show

A quick scout of RTG and apparently they have 2 metro's, one leaves Sunderland at 10.30, the other 10.45.

Where's everyone planning to drink before the game?

(I know various pubs are opening from 8am)

Do you know which ones mate? We were planning to get into town by about 9am but from what I can gather most pubs aren't opening until 10am. I know the likes of The Black garter will probably be open about 7 as usual but it's not really my cup of tea!

The Black Garter isn't open until 9AM but is advertising free Wi-Fi!

i know about its reputation but what specifically is so bad about it? never been inside

I've been in a few times before and after home games and it's been alright really. Mostly full of older trampy gadgies and people from the grainger market.

I pass it every morning and evening going to and from work and at 8.45AM there are always about a dozen or more older blokes hanging around waiting for it to open at 9AM, a few already having been in the Tesco's opposite and done their shopping!!

When i go home at 6PM or pass at Lunchtime it's usually full inside of scruffy older blokes watching the racing and outside is usually busy with scruffs from inside outside having a smoke.

To be honest The Clock on the other side of the street is worse and The Fish Bar (rip) at the opposite end and The Blackett (rip) around the corner were always worse still.

Black Garter is full of criminal riff-raff and old blokes. Apparently if the police are after anyone, it's one of the first places they look!

It's horrible like. Not as bas as The Clock mind.

I've been in the Garter a few times recently (cheap as hell) and it's not really that bad. I imagine derby day will be a lot different to your standard Saturday night/Tuesday afternoon though. Might stick with the 3 Bulls.

I used to live directly above the black garter and about once a week they had some drag act on whose voice just cut through the whole building.  We made that our night to go out :). There was always police getting called there too, once or twice a week at times.

It's amazing the places that offer free wi-fi these days. I would love to see the reaction if a student went into one of this places, got a mac out and started using the net - maybe I will try it one day!

any idea if the bars in the ground will be open pre kick off ?

why would you want to go in the ground and pay stupid prices when there's 100's of bars in the city centre?

it's because we will have young kids in tow so if the bars that are open are too busy or not letting kids in we have a fall back. (our usual pre match pub is keeping to it's 12noon opening)

Their response to 'Sunderland till half time' was 'Spurs Away'. Now unless I'm mistaken, all I could hear throughout the second half was the Newcastle fans continuous support (bar a few songs from Spurs) despite the humping.

And this s**** comment coming from the same set of fans who during their defeat to West Brom on Saturday decided to, in their own words, 'when the 3rd went in everyone just had a party during the second half' downstairs in the concourse. Obviously it got some people wound up on RTG but it reads like most were in favour. Apparently after getting bored halfway through the second half, the majority were refused access back onto the stand and were sent out. Lots of videos (from during the second half) already on youtube...

the original video is this

also we have nothing to fear from these bunch of idiots, Newcastle 3 Sunderland 1

Did anyone post this?

http://www.journallive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2012/03/01/papiss-demba-cisse-winning-his-derby-fitness-race-61634-30435754/

PAPISS Demba Cisse is on course to win his race to be fit for Sunday’s Tyne-Wear tussle.

The Senegal striker has not trained since pulling his groin in the frustrating draw with Wolves but with an extra day to prepare for the high-noon showdown, John Carver expects Cisse to recover in time to get a first taste of the North East derby.

That is a sizeable boost for Newcastle United as they look to protect a 12-year unbeaten run at St James’ Park – a record that Tyneside-born Carver is rightly proud of. Cisse has scored two in two home games and United’s assistant boss is convinced he will respond in the right way to the big match atmosphere.

“He should be OK,” Carver told The Journal. “He had a problem with his groin, he hasn't trained yet. He didn't train on Wednesday and I think the fortunate thing is that we have the extra day with the game being on Sunday. But fingers crossed he should be OK.”

:scared:

On a related note, does the Platinum bar stay open past full time at all? There's no chance of geting in with enough time for a pint beforehand, so was wondering if we'd actually get a chance to make the £67 worth it and use the available facilities!
