Nigel Adkins sacked. Mauricio Pochettino appointed new Southampton manager

I've just thought. He takes over at Southampton, who are third bottom of League One. Just over two years later he has them coming from 2-0 down, away, to the European Champions in a Premier League match to draw 2-2. Then he gets sacked. You couldn't make it up. It's a Newcastle United decision, that.

the comparison to Hughton sacked is appropriate but this is a good deal worse, our form was at least going downhill and had lost fairly abjectly to WBA, they however are on a good run of form and just came back from 2 down away to Chelsea

Go get him Ashley. Flowing, attacking football philosophy. Imagine what he could do with the talent that Pardew has at his disposal.

Well at least there is a manager out there that is available (no compo) and should be cheap.  Whether he would be willing to kowtow to the board in they way they seem to require is another matter although the Southampton chairman doesn't seem to be an easy man to work for.

Daftest decision since the Hughton sacking (which will take some topping). Looks a very promising manager.

As jdckelly has argued above, this looks a lot worse at first glance. Time will tell if it's a masterstroke or the blunder it currently seems.

Gutted for the man, but as others have said he'll not be out of work for long and he has greatly enhanced his reputation in the game.

Hope they crash and burn now though, of course.
