Fenham Mag
http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-united-given-green-light-4837074#.UdNHZQ3e0J8.twitter Newcastle United have tonight been given the green light to make a bid for Darren Bent after Aston Villa ostracised the striker. We understand Villa boss Paul Lambert has told the 29-year-old that he not only won’t take any part in the squad’s pre-season preparations, either friendly matches or travelling to a training camp in Germany, he won’t even be allowed to train with the first-team at all. This move is expected to quicken Bent’s exit from the Midlands with St James’ Park his preferred destination – despite his links to Sunderland. Newcastle will likely now make an official move for the England international with almost 200 senior goals to his credit. Not a single bid has been made by any club since the transfer window opened on Monday. The stumbling block remains that Villa want £8million for the player, which is double United’s valuation of him. However, this latest development could well play in to Newcastle’s hands. Because now Bent has been cast out of the first-team squad, it is difficult to see how Villa can demand that kind of money for someone they are clearly desperate to get off the books. Alan Pardew wants Bent and with long-time target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang set to join Borussia Dortumund, the manager does not want to miss out on yet another player. Think its worth a thread now. I wonder who has given the green light. Good addition if we get him IMO.

jdckelly
he'll score goals, find it strange Villa have thrown him out on his ear like this though, not sure what he's done to deserve the train with the kids treatment
DanK13
I would take him but we still need another top quality striker IMO, more than likely wont happen like
Fenham Mag
How was he played/how did he do under Pardew at Charlton? Can't remember.
Cajun
How the fuck can you refuse to let a player participate in pre-season but then turn around and say "we want £8m!" Would definitely take him as BACK UP to Cisse.

Weznufc
hopefully we can pick him up cheaper than the reported 8million.
Cronky
The article is pure speculation, based on how much Villa don't want him, rather than how keen we are. He'd be okay as a squad player, but somehow you feel this is the wrong move.

jdckelly
Like we'd pay £8m man no one will, you can't just exile someone from the first team and expect other sides to fork over £8m
