The Managerial Merry Go Round™ - Vitor Pereira to Wolves

Recommended Posts

Allardyce has zero positive impact in 4 weeks. Zero. It takes at least 10 games for defenders to figure out what the fuck they're supposed to do. Allardyce is Leeds' suicide note, they're done

We must be reaching a nadir in terms of the hiring/firing management culture in this league. Hastily appointing out-of-work/unwanted managers late in the season has turned out to be a horrendously ineffective strategy for everyone bar Palace. But they were never in real danger given their fixture list anyway.

It'll be extremely telling if West Ham and Forest both stay up, having been the ones to stick with their managers. That's not to say a change isn't necessary for those clubs in the near future, but in the context of dealing with the task at hand, it seems basically pointless making a late change these days. The Gracia, Lampard and Stellini appointments have all turned out to be lunacy for different reasons.

You wonder if there's a general lack of talent out there these days, or if it's that clubs are just generally terrible at making the right appointments in the first place. Leeds are ultimately in this mess because they fucked up their Bielsa succession plan. Potter was a terrible choice for Chelsea. Jones at Southampton: laughable. How did Leicester get themselves in a situation where moving-on from their long-term manager left them scrabbling around the bargain bin?

Basketcases at boardroom levels all over the shop.

Part of the problem is the insane financial gulf between the PL and Champo. If clubs didn’t see relegation as a financial death sentence, they might be more inclined to stick it out with a manager and try to build something over time.

There are very few managers who can step in to any club situation and get immediate results.

I hate that big sham is getting the job when we still have them to play because despite actually being a good defensive coach he’s a spakey Mackem bastard

Bielsa to Allardyce in just over a year. As a football fan that's the road to hell. Binning Bielsa was very suspect at the time, but in hindsight it was insane - under very little pressure, plenty of time to turn things around, all the fans adored him. Crackers decision, every replacement only made them worse.

Despite fat Sam being shit, I’m more nervous about our game against them now.

Don’t be, he’s an absolute dinosaur and the Leeds squad he inherits won’t exactly suit his brand of football.

It’s funny but I suppose Fat Sam kind of makes sense with the games they have left. Shoring up their defence and grafting to some bore-draws may well save them.
