Do you really want someone in charge who has such strong convictions to a losing system though? Managers obviously need to be grounded and have a philosophy but stubbornly stocking to one formation is a sign of weakness imo.

I mean, I wouldn’t want it here no and I do think it’s flawed. However, he brought huge success to Sporting with the system. He was naive to think he could only set up that way and hopefully he’ll grow and develop into a more flexible approach. Overall though, he’s about as far away from a yes man as you can find and I hugely respect that

It's fine having a preferred system, but stubbornly sticking to it is stupid.

everyone just went "we're playing Man Utd, so we'll play 3 in the middle and abuse their wing-backs" and invariably it got them a result.

Glasner plays the same system and formation as Amorim doesn't he?

Similar aye but obviously the way it plays is different and Glasner has much less resources to make it work.

Kinda puts Anorim to shame when you think about it

I reckon he was fairly good at setting his team up for matches but his in game management was awful

The old adage about no battle plan surviving first contact with the enemy. I'd agree he wasn't good at adapting but I also don't think he encouraged his players to show leadership and take initiatives.

Formation is not that important IMO, much more about patterns of play and movement.

Not that I know enough to judge that either.

This is true, though they were nearly always 3v2 in the middle of the park. Which is fine if you have good CMs but they usually had old guys in there who can't run.

Incidentally will his ball retention and positioning, Miley would perhaps suit it, and Tonali with fitness and running, but still think it's not playing to anyone's strengths.

As crap as Amorin was, they did seem better lately.  Long term he was never going to be any good for them.  But for this season he did offer them the stability they haven't had for a while.  Surely would have been better to sack him last game.

Hopefully in the short term they lose even the small amount of stability they've had.  Then "Brexit Jim" (my god that's fucking cringe 😂) brings in someone as bad as Amorin, or worse.  Would hate it if Man Utd weren't shit.

So that's Chelsea and Man Utd ditching their managers.

Liverpool and Spurs must have twitchy fingers at the moment.

Who is actually out there for these teams?

Say what you will about PSR but I think the days of the Big 6 are slowly coming to an end. The rest of the league is catching up.

The cartel will need a new strategy very soon. The league has too much money compared to other leagues and the difference in the quality of first team squads is closer than ever before. They still have the squad depth advantages but even that will narrow. They’ll be cooking something up, hopefully they set themselves on fire in the process

Oh come on. 3 points separate 5th from 12th. At the moment, in reality you're mid-table.

In reality we're exactly where I said we are.

As for Amorim the writing was on the wall when MOTD showed that press conference. That was a man inviting the board to sack him.

The Portuguese league is so imbalanced it's kinda of impossible to judge how well a coach/player will perform outside of that. It's basically 3 champions league clubs and a load of mid table championship sides.

Amorim was was too stubborn to stick to a tactic that had only had success in Portugal.

I mean Gyokeres knocked in 50 a season over there and looks like he's been plucked from the crowd playing here [emoji38]

I think this quite nicely demonstrates the size of the clubs and the relative competition they face.

There's teams in the Isthmian League with higher attendances
