There's little to complain about at the moment, which makes the relentless anti Pardew bile more wearisome than ever to read.

this shit is utterly baffling, i've not seen anyone failing to praise the guy for turning it around since sunderland (other than discuss the context of how we achieved certain victories like chelsea, or spurs)...he's getting the praise, yet any post that has anything other than fawning adoration is labelled anti-pardew bile

Could Mick go through the 20 teams in the division and tell me the defined styles of play?

I'm sure he could teach me a thing or two and I'm all ears.

Whether I could or not, I'm not going to.

Basically, he couldn't. Not every manager has a style of play or blueprint. A lot of managers will set up his side in a way they think will be best to beat the opposition, others will pretty much stick to what they know each game and may vary it slightly.

The whole we don't have defined style of play under Pardew is a load of shit to be honest. Many managers don’t, what’s Jose’s defined style? He changes it up a lot but he wins matches in whatever way he can. Fans are basically criticising Pardew as he doesn’t play the way they think we should play. They want us to just play attacking possession football in which the likes of Martinez/Rodgers/Laudrup strive towards too. End of the day we don’t have that type of manager and I guess that’s why a lot still want him sacked and a foreign manager with this type of philosophy brought in.

I would just like to see us go for teams a bit more tbh rather than worrying what they can do. Something we did against Palace to a degree but need more of that rather than hoping to not concede everytime and trying to shut up shop when 1 or 2 up, however he has done very well so far this season and appears to make correct decisions at times, in fact he has been making more attacking decisions recently bringing on players to attack rather than shut up shop. If he sustains what has happened so far and adds to it then nobody should have any complaints

Yeah he's got his flaws but overall he's doing a very decent job. Really looking forward to the next game.

It's not worrying though, it's looking at a side, figuring out their strengths and weaknesses and then setting up a team in a manner you think could be best to take 3 points. If people's opinions are different to Pardew's then fair enough, doesn't make him wrong, it's just you'd like things done differently. Benitez/Mourinho to Wenger/Pep, all excellent managers but one side of them favour the sort of tactical approach to games other two prefer the attacking possession approach.

Of course if I had a choice I’d prefer the second two options because it’s far more pleasant on the eye and the ‘right way’ to play football. However you can’t argue with results and if the first pairing get them with their methods like Pardew is doing then it’s fine by me. I’m not going to moan because he doesn’t play the same football as Martinez and want him to be someone he isn’t. Everything is going swimmingly and Pardew is doing an excellent job and long may it continue.

He doesn't. He takes a tactical approach to games and differs his style of play depending on the opposition.

in some games aye, in games where he thinks he can dominate he does, it's not 'his' style though, it's what he thinks gets best from what he's got, hence the difference in style between the duff, robben, drogba style and the later chelsea of the same era.

For instance tonight, you don't know what Jose will do. It's not like Arsenal against Man City where you knew Wenger was still going to attack them and look to take the possession from Man City.

Jose would have been looking at Arsenal, not worrying about them but looking for a gameplan in which he feels he can stop Arsenal and take 3 points. What that maybe i don't know because like i said he doesn’t have a defined style of play in which he plays week in week out.

if tonight was against norwich and chelsea were in good form you know he'd try impose their play on them much more than adapting to the opposition.

fwiw I can see us developing a bit of our own style, more so in away games, some of the possession stuff was there at villa and cardiff (a bit last season where we'd have the better of some games without creating much then lose it completely after going behind) and much more at man utd and palace but it doesn't happen overnight, butit seems to me like it's developing. it's a bit harder to play possession and patient at home when you are expected to force things a bit more.

That's my point though, he will pick and choose his matches in which he thinks that will be best. At Madrid he pretty much attacked every team but soon as a 'difficult' game came along against top side he changed his style of play and tried to counter more and sit back.

Even recent home games he went 4-3-3 against West Brom, didn't really work for them and got lucky, next home game against Southampton, he changes to 4-4-2 and it worked for them. There's nothing set in stone with Jose, he will take each game as they come and look to set up a way in which they can get a positive result. There isn’t a defined style in which you know he’s going to play every game like you know with some managers. And that's not a bad thing, it's just different approach to how many would like to see the game played.

most managers do that, if they don't think thery can impose their style on the oppo they try to combat it. see ferguson playing ronaldo through the middle against barcelona.

I'd absolutely love it if he had changed his outlook, like.

He's changed it for sure, he was even talking about controlling the game through possession on Saturday. Even before the Swansea game he fancied our more direct style over their passing game, but I think that was a real wake up call. Before that game the crossover to passing football has been sort of half-hearted. Tbh, even if he's not a natural believer in the passing game like Martinez or Laudrup, just giving the players the go ahead to play more football is half the battle. At least he's not actively making them look shit.

With Newcastle firmly back in the mix for a top seven finish, Pardew has clarified the team's ambitions. He said: "We want to be back in Europe.

"But I do think clubs are thinking twice about Europe. If you ask the Swansea chairman or the Spurs chairman about whether it's something that's worked for them, I don't know what their answer would be but I've got a good idea.

"The Europa League is a massive problem to Premier League teams, Swansea and Tottenham are both feeling that like we did last season. I don't think the Premier League and Uefa should get together and look at it because the demands on our teams are greater than in other countries.

"It's something we're wary of, we'll say that now, but we're chasing a Europe spot and that's what we want to get.

"The evidence is there that the Thursday to Sunday is not fair. I think it's different for us than the other European nations."

Spurs have got 1 more point than this stage last season (although they were actually in that competition last season when they finished 5th, but we don't mention that), Swansea have got 3 less. Hardly a comprehensive result. He's certainly convinced me.

We've got 13 more.

Well its convinced me that's why he wouldn't dropped Jonas, and why we hoofed it virtually all season, and refused to budge from the 4-2-3-1 that clearly worked wonders.

I'm sold. Wanker.

I hope so mate, I really do. I'm sick of hating his management, I genuinely want to like it.

He's still making excuses for last season.
