Very common song but I wouldn't have chosen it for a banner like.

Aye

Almost everyone outside of Newcastle will have no idea what the reference is.

Also used in Yorkshire btw.

Norwegian commentators did a spit-take when they saw it  It was amazing.

I'm from Newcastle and had no idea, had a season ticket for 8 years and been going since 1997 :dontknow:  How old is the song, like?

I’ve heard that song only a handful of times like. I do like that the displays focus on parts of our history and songs from the past, though. It helps connect the young supporters to our heritage

Fairly old. It gets sung probably once or twice a season in a pub before an away game, other than that it very rarely gets an airing.

There used to be a "Cock of the North" pub, just south of Nevilles Cross in Durham. Its a housing estate now.

Aye..." Cock O' the North". The roundabout is called Cock O' the North.

That's my problem with the banner felt like it should be colloquial, but I know not of the song so am certainly wrong.

Aye, went to the pub as a kid. Had a play area IIRC.

:milner:

The chant still gets sung, like, just not at SJP. It had a few renditions in the concourse at Leicester last week.

It does get sang at St James' and it gets sung in the corner. I can confirm that for one.

Ill be honest, I see where people are coming from and we too thought this might be the case, but I'm slightly dumbfounded that so many fans of so many years of following the club don't know this song.

Nonetheless, our intention, as always, is to connect with the club and its fanbase. We felt this connected with older generations and we are the cock of the true North. So... Make of that what you will...

Chelsea will be awesome. Thanks to your help.

"We are the Geordies the cock of the North

We all hate sunlun, and Boro of course (and Leeds)

We all drink whisky and Newcastle Brown

The Geordie Boys are in town"

It's been sung as long as I can remember going to the match (35 years). Very odd that so many people on here haven't heard of it, or maybe not so.

I'm honestly amazed that everyone does not know this song, the corner sings it every match.

Heron we've got to sing louder mate !!

The banners and displays we do are primarily for us, the fans, the team and Rafa, if other folk like them that's great but that's not the reason we do them.

I'll admit though that this was made with the intention of having a small pop at our friends down the road ( in my mind anyway).

Probably nowt new for West Brom but like Heron said Chelsea will be stunning.

Purely for the team, no digs at anyone just this glorious bunch of lads who've battled for everything.
