Isaac Hayden: on loan at QPR

Need to thank Rafa for holding him to his contract. There were people who wanted to let him go for £5m last season, but Rafa holds everyone to his own standards where a contract means something. At least we should get some sort of decent recompense if we have to sell.

Diame, Shelvey and Hayden all leaving in summer leaves quite a gap in there.

This is why I'm disappointed Diame didn't get a contract extension. He shouldn't be starting matches anymore, but hes decent back up and now with 3 centre midfielders likely to leave we lack quality and quantity in centre midfield. Its the same with strikers with Rondon, Gayle and Joselu likely to leave and we will have to buy at least 2 strikers in the summer. Bringing in so many players in one summer is not a good idea, but we might be forced to just to build up the squad. This is what happens when you undermine your manager in the transfer market and rely too much on loans.

Looking forward to going back to our proven midfield pairing of Colback & Anita. Schteve back in the dugout.

Do people really think someone is now going to pay over £7million for him this Summer?

His fee has probably gone up about £2million/3million at most.

He's an above-average Premier League midfielder, just turned 24, more than two years left on his contract, good injury record, good attitude, intelligent. In the current market he should fetch a lot more than that.

I will be shocked if we get more than £8million for him.

Although I can see the likes of Palace and Brighton being all over him

We’d probably need to spend over £15m to get someone as useful.

Apparently Rafa wants Andreas Samaris on a free someone we had previously bid £17million for and tried to get for a low price deal in January.

He has looked very good in their Europa League run

It is what it is, but it would have been very interesting to follow his progress under Rafa (if both stayed) as he's stil very young. Pretty certain that he would become much better within time, gradually. He's had a fantastic second half this season. Absolutely bloody brilliant attitude and professionalism. Hats off and good luck.

Good on him - he's in a unique position where he's got nothing to lose and can tell it how it is. He sounds like he'd rather not play football until his contract expires than stay another week in the North East.

The Newcastle United dressing room is a "frustrated" place at the moment, with the Magpies squad desperate for the club to bring in quality players so they can make progress.

That is the verdict of midfielder Isaac Hayden in his latest honest interview about the current situation the club finds itself in.

While Hayden himself is desperate to depart this summer for personal reasons, he is keen to reflect the mood of the rest of the United squad, who he insists are simply not content with merely avoiding relegation from the Premier League - though managing director Lee Charnley is adamant the Magpies hierarchy are keen for the club to improve, too.

Rather than be daunted by the prospect of quality players arriving and fearful of losing their place in the side, the Newcastle squad want to see higher calibre of signing brought into St James' Park, according to Hayden.

Only then will the Magpies be able to progress in order to compete for regular top-half finishes and potentially even European football, just as manager Rafa Benitez himself has repeatedly stressed.

"It’s a frustrated dressing room. If you ask any player in that dressing room, every single one of them wants to improve," Hayden said of the ambition among the players to progress and take Newcastle higher in the table.

"There is no one in there who wants to shy away and does not want better players arriving. The only way you get better is by bringing in better players."

Although Hayden is keen to relocate from the North East in order to be closer to his daughter and fiancee, he recognises the importance of Benitez staying beyond the end of his contract.

But the 24-year-old insists that Benitez will not extend his current deal, which expires on June 30, unless he is given the resources to take Newcastle forward so that the club's undoubted potential can be realised.

Asked how important it is that Benitez stays at St James' Park, even if Hayden himself departs, the midfielder said: "It’s very important. But it doesn’t matter what players say, no one can influence that but the hierarchy of the club, it’s up to them to come up with a package that the manager is happy with.

"He’s proved with the tools he’s been given so far he can be successful. To get promoted at the first time of asking was not easy, and then to finish 10th and then mid-table again, it’s a success, especially with the tools he’s been given to do it."

Newcastle travel to Craven Cottage on Sunday to take on already-relegated Fulham in their final game of the season, with United currently 14th in the table.

The Magpies can only finish as high as 13th this term - they ended last season's Premier League in an impressive 10th - but, given the fact Newcastle started 2018/19 without a win in their opening 10 games, Hayden views the campaign as a success overall. The midfielder is particularly proud of the way the United squad, and Benitez, retained belief, even during extremely testing periods.

"The fixture list was horrible at the start and we couldn’t buy a win," Hayden said, as he reflected upon Newcastle's season as a whole.

"But the manager kept the same belief and nothing changed in training. We did the same things.

"We knew the tide would turn when the fixtures became more kind, and we really found our form in the second half of the season."

Hayden excelled during what looks to have been his last match at St James' Park as a Newcastle player on Saturday.

And, although the Magpies ended up on the losing side in a narrow 3-2 defeat to Liverpool, Hayden fells Newcastle gave an extremely good account of themselves, and were unfortunate that some crucial decisions went against them.

"I don’t know what the linesman saw to be honest. We weren’t too happy with that, although you still have to defend a set-piece," Hayden said of the decision to award a foul against Matt Ritchie for the challenge on Fabinho which led to Liverpool's winner.

"It was disappointing to concede two cheap goals from set-pieces - even the [Mo] Salah goal we should have stopped the cross.

"I thought it was a red card [for Trent Alexander-Arnold's handball as well] but the referee seemed happy to carry on with the goal, after playing the advantage.

"If [Christian] Atsu had missed it would have been different. It was a cracking game though, end to end, and lots of chances.

"Liverpool were worried in that second half; we went toe to toe with them. We showed ourselves to be a solid outfit, it just wasn’t to be.

‘The lads have got great character, we’ve shown that time and time again this season. We could have scored more. It was a great game for the fans to end the season on [at home]."

Has developed so nicely. Such a huge shame his personal circumstances are what they are.

Young, with ability and character. Such a tidy value signing that was nurtured nicely and was just coming along. My favourite type of signing.

Apparently we will be asking for around £20 million and will not acknowledge bids under £15 million, and rightly so. Has been incredible since he came into the team.

In fact as he is English and still under 25 I really would be looking at £20 million as a minimum starting point actually.

You need to update the calibration of your Transfer Fee estimator. Mediocre players cost £15m+ these days. Championship clubs spend £15m+ on their strikers. It's a whole new (crazy) world.

:smitten: A player I've really enjoyed having represent my club and my city. Best of luck to him, and his family, whatever happens. Shut a lot of idiots up in the last few months too, which is always nice.
