AY
Thought it looked harsh as well, but that's a clear red in the replays. Studs up in the goalkeepers face. Gerraway Ball is there to be won. Had to go for it. Game has completely gone to the durgs Even if he wins the ball and misses the GK, thats a foul.

Decky
Was the keeper hurt this bad like?
SEMTEX
I'm fine with it being a yellow but there's no malice and it's a 50/50 ball. It's not like the ball was 10ft in the air either. Was there to be won.
Guest
If that happens on the halfway line do we say the game's gone soft?
geordie_b
Red all day long. He doesn't try and kick it, he leads with his studs. Its not like when John Terry was booted in the face in the League Cup final. Whether he has eyes on the ball or not doesnt matter, its dangerous play. Have a look at slides 26 and 27 in this FIFA presentation https://www.fifa.com/mm/document/afdeveloping/refereeing/law_12_fouls_misconduct_en_47379.pdf EDIT that said, the directive below the those slides woudl suggest it shouldnt be a red
Flip
I don't think there's any malice to that whatsoever, but he is coming with studs very high straight into his face. Being stretchered out with oxygen. Come on. It's a clear red. If that was against us and Mane gets a yellow people would be livid.

Ritchie
He could've just given him a yellow card and no one would've complained.

Don't see what Mane could have done tbh. Yellow, fair enough, never in a million years a red.

ponsaelius
Red imo. Unfortunate for Mane but still a red.
SimplyAnth
Aye probably is dangerous play running at full pelt and putting your foot that high. No malice but still dangerous.

SEMTEX
Divnt care about "studs up" being some form of immediate red either. It's nonsense. Your studs are "up" for any stretching tackle. There's no reason for it to be outlawed. Sawft.
Guest
He could've just given him a yellow card and no one would've complained. I think City having their keeper stretchered off because someone's just clattered into him dangerously might have had something to say about it mind. nufc4eva
Thought it looked harsh as well, but that's a clear red in the replays. Studs up in the goalkeepers face. He's looking at the ball all the way, never a red, just a challenge for the ball You cant come to challenge studs first and kick a gk to head man.. At that point he's an outfield player running out the box to charge the ball, Mane may have thought the ball was clear to win. We may as well play head height rules if he's not allowed to raise his foot there like
Dave
I'm split on the red. Instinctive reaction was it was a clear 50/50 and Mane has to be allowed to try and win it. Eyes on the ball, yellow card for the high boot. But then again it's pretty clearly dangerous play under the laws of the game. Meh.
jdckelly
red imho, his studs were at head height its dangerous play the end no eye on the ball defence is appropriate
Shearergol
One of the easiest reds you'll see this season. No idea how people can question it. You don't challenge for a ball at that height with your studs.
