Other clubs' transfers

I'd like to think he'd still end his career at Newell's. Two last shots at the CL in a team that should reach at least the SFs. Wouldn't shock me if he is used sparingly in the league, a bit like Neymar but without the added suspensions as he finds the idea of playing the likes of Troyes and Lens so below him he'd prefer to assault someone to avoid it.

That won't die with them unfortunately. Pogba fans will follow him, Mbappe fans will follow him.

It hasn't been exclusive to those two neither by the way, Zlatan has had a massive "cult following" (obviously been much more prevalent in here in Sweden), wherever has had chosen to pick up his paycheck for example.

Based on nowt I've always assumed this is more prevalent in places with shit leagues, shit national teams and less than prevailing football culture.

For the hard of thinking, he doesn’t need to be paid to play football by them, his world wide income from sponsorships and image rights is plenty enough to get by on. Now that would make him a legend, play for free.

I don't get why Messi doesn't do something like Suarez did and try to help a club breakthrough, knowing he was a massive part of that. It's hardly like you have to pure slum it (though think that would be even cooler), it can still be a big club just like Atletico. Surely that's much more of an achievement. And the idea that PSG is his 'only' option some are saying cos only they can afford him - he's absolutely rich as fuck, will be wherever he goes, and will continue to make loads of money.

More realistically I just  don't see why he wants to try and win the PL or Serie A. If he cares about that stuff, Ronaldo clearly has him beaten by winning La Liga, Serie A and the PL - noone will give a shit if he wins Ligue 1 with PSG.

Some hot fucking takes knocking about in here mind

Someone else said it earlier; these people don't think like us, like a fan.  Messi will be looking for greatness, he'll want another 1-2 CL's before he's done and a last crack at the WC with Argentina.  This appears to set him up for that arguably better than any other move, including Man City or staying at Barca imo.

He's going all or bust on the CL if he's at PSG. His Ligue 1 title won't count alongside Serie A or the PL when comparing greatness, and wouldn't have thought his goal stats there really will either - plus surely Man City have better chance of the CL anyway.

In a way, I cant wait for the cult of Ronaldo and Messi to end when theyve both retired. They've brought about, through no fault of their own, the absolute worst kind of football fan. "Ronaldo is at Real so I support Real", "Now he's at Juve I support Juve". "I used to support Barca cos Leo was there now I support PSG". "Ronaldo or Messi Ronald or Messi". What about the rest of the team, or the league? God forbid the area and the history. Also the business of football and sport have created such a foul tasting aura around them with a horrible commercialisation of them as individuals. Totally detracting from football itself. I mean I love watching both quite obviously, but Im sick to fucking death of the business of them. Even more the consumers of that business. I'm quite happy in the fact the next super instah fan footballer protégé in Mbappe, isn't going to cut it.

I saw Argentina v Panama in the Copa America in the US, Messi started on the bench and it was so annoying the way so many there in Argentina shirts weren't really there to support Argentina, but just Messi. You had Aguero, DiMaria etc on the pitch and it was as if they were nobodies. Of course I really wanted to see Messi too, and it was a privilege too, but really grated. (As it happened he came off the bench and scored a hat trick)

He's pretty much carried Barca on his own the last few years whilst the club has been run horrifcly. Must be frustrating as fuck being the best player that's ever played and your lining up along side Martin Braithwaite.

It's fair enough him going PSG for a couple of years playing with his mates in a world class squad and having a shot at the champions League again. Will allow him to be in the best shape for the World Cup too, much less intense league campaing being rested whenever he needs it.

He's won a bagful of titles in Spain already but Barca being a total basket case of a club prevented him from being outright the greatest winner in CL history which will probably hurt him a lot.  He's got 4 and should have had more; most by a single player is 6, Ronaldo has 5.  None of us know but my guess would be that's his focus yeah.

Man City might be better placed, maybe, but PSG aren't far off and are now adding the goat to make easily the greatest strikeforce in the world.  You'd think they'll come very close in the next couple of years like.

Totally this.  You can talk about man city but he'd have a much harder domestic campaign here and will need to look after himself for the next year for sure.  Move makes sense for him.

Fairly confident Suarez's move to Atletico wasn't motivated by some noble intention to help a club breakthrough. He did not have an offer like PSG on hand. English clubs were vary of him. Heard rumors that his agent did some charm offense to Klopp and FSG also. Suarez picked Atletico as I am sure it was the best, highest salary, best for his career offer on hand. If PSG now makes Atletico an offer to reunite MSN, I am confident his agent will be in Atletico's offices creating trouble, and he will be releasing newsbytes on how he is unhappy in Madrid, blah blah.

I think a lot of you were spoilt by Shearer. Very few players (less than 5) think like him. 99.9% of them pick the shortest, most convenient path to accumulate medals and wages. Whether they deserve it, etc., doesn't matter.

Messi to PSG is the most boring football transfer of all time, regardless of how much sense it makes for him. The greatest player of all time, still the best in the world, off to play in a second rate league.

Really really hope they bottle the CL again.

Lukaku's deal to Chelsea is almost done.

Think he will be devastating in Tuchel's setup, as the striker has loads of support from the two attacking midfielders playing off the front man, and gets to make runs in behind and into the channels more, which I think Lukaku is fantastic at. He won't have to hold the ball up while isolated as much where his touch can sometimes then let him down.

Could see him being top scorer in the prem this season.

I agree with your assessment of Lukaku but read something where Tuchel said he wanted a striker to play with their back to goal now Giroud has gone

Ah, interesting. In any case he can do that too, but ideally not in situations where he is too isolated, but instead has players close by he can link with quickly rather than battling two centre-backs and waiting for a deeper midfield to catch up to play.

Chelsea's formation will suit him down to a tee I think, with the two attacking midfielders close by. All those chances Werner was fluffing will be gobbled up by Lukaku this season.
