Aye? Should it only be good British men who support the Saudi owned Newcastle with the German striker, Swedish winger, Brazilian midfielder and Swiss defender?

It's just empty PR talk and I can't believe how often the quotes are brought up here. They are not going to say 'we hope to make Newcastle an upper midtable team in the near future and hoping their valuation goes up while making the public image of Saudi Arabia a bit better in the process'.

It’s ok that our owners have spout empty PR talk?

What is their actual ambition for the club.

I stopped being actively angry at Ashley when i knew what the game was. It will be the same with PIF however things turn out

I don’t Real Madrid in the sense they don’t avoid who they are. They know they’re cunts, they stick to their cunt model and keep buying the top end players.

Think they’ve deviated from that once in the late 00s when they went chasing for the Dutch in thing, then after being shit went back to Kaka / Ronaldo types and stayed on that path since :D

Perhaps they do want to be number 1 but aren't prepared to cheat to get there and hadnt realised the rest of the PL were prepared to change rules to stop them.

"Well what about the training kit sponsorship?" Its been answered, go and look for yourself. It doesn't turn the dial whatsoever.

Our ownership have been outstanding in the first few years. Not perfect, but brilliant all the same.

It is, but English teams are hugely popular for ex. in Finland. When I ask someone who considers himself a "scouser" or whatever, why don't you go support your local team? "Who cares" or the "football is so crap". It is still your local club. That is what football is about. I like watching Newcastle from a far, cause I like football. But clearly cannot have same kind of feelings towards a club like locals or like I feel for the club I have supported since a little kid.

I get that someone wants to watch football at the highest level, but do you have to learn lyrics for YNWA or "hate Everton" or whatever, if you are 55yo Finnish man in Helsinki? Seems weird.

The whole world should be taught to hate scousers.

This is where I am as well. I think if they just wanted to milk Newcastle, they would probably be making less ambitious hires in the executive and coaching departments. Maybe they were never going to do a Man City and pump huge amounts of money into buying a playing squad which would make us No 1, but since the rules have pretty much closed off every avenue to that, I don't even know how to judge that.

I generally agree with that. In my own case, I’ve never really felt “at home” with MLS or the U.S. soccer environment in general. It hasn’t really historically been a working class or everyman sport here, and has more of a well-off, suburban, try-hard feel to it.  That’s changing a bit, with the size of the Latino population. It’s also probably colored by some of my own personal sentiment/bias. But I just have never been able to feel an affinity for D.C. United. (Which brings up another pet peeve: U.S. soccer’s nonsensical pilfering of “United” and “Real” in team names).

I understand this, as the whole culture is so different there. We have clubs that are way over 100 years old.

When Finnish team Haka played Liverpool in UCL-qualifier in 2001, they played it 250 km from their home stadium, at Helsinki Olympic Stadium. It was sold out, and most people cheered everytime Liverpool scored (ended 5-0). I just thought this must have felt so weird for the away fans.

Sorry for OT guys.

I wonder what British football would look like if that was the reality? English football is probably the country's most successful export, if it wasn't for globalisation it would probably resemble the 90's era. On the plus side I reckon Newcastle would be one of the biggest clubs in the country anyway, and we'd have more to spend than Man City or Chelsea for sure.

With a name like yours you should probably be supporting Shamrock Rovers tbf.

 Funnily enough I did my ancestry last year and my name represents one of only two bits (Clontibret and Ballyragget) of Irish lineage I have, it was a bit disappointing.

You must have done some wild platforming action in your day for that to happen.

But seriously, I support Newcastle football club because Newcastle is my city. I remember having these debates about what that really meant if your owners weren't from there or your manager or most of your players.

It took SBR to put it down succinctly.

Nordic countries showed a 3pm first division/PL match every Saturday from late 60's to late 90's. Our local BBC's bid for the rights together. That's a very simple reason why there are so many fans of English teams here.

There's probably a similar reason across many parts of the globe tbh.
