Guest
It’s almost as if Ashley intended it that way.
Stal
I'm just annoyed more than anything. Annoyed at the obvious ploy, annoyed at the bare faced cheek of the lies about a takeover, annoyed at the lack of progress, annoyed at the lack of updates, annoyed at the fake timescales given out for these fake updates and most of all I'm annoyed with myself for actually checking back to see is there are any updates. Current feeling:

Stifler
Does this mean by the end of the day we’ll have Mike Ashley going on TV saying a takeover is close again? Then again, the way things are going he’ll probably end the day as PM.
Guest reefatoon
Love that, well done LMG, quality stuff. He is not going to like being hounded like that whenever he is in public.

TBG
Reporter: "How's the takeover going?" Ashley: "Really good" Media: "Sources from within the club have exclusively told us that a deal is progressing well [insert snippet from previous articles about Kenyon and other prospective buyers]. When questioned Ashley went on to say "Really good" [insert snippet from previous article about Ashley]. This will be welcomed by Rafa who's side has struggled recently [insert snippet from previous articles about the teams form]. As ever a takeover may or may not happen. And we have provided no new information. But we'll continue to write about it as long as you lap it up"
Guest firetotheworks
I really don't get the facetiousness surrounding this whole thing like. Of course reporters are going to report on it, the interest is genuine. Ashley might be using that genuine interest for his own means, but that doesn't stop the interest being real. Yesterday I saw tweets from people saying the deal was off because they hadn't heard anything for a while and then people saying it was off because the Newspapers are just creating click-bait articles about it. I would say they should make their mind up, but the idea that the deal would be off for any other reason than Mike Ashley simply being a cunt is daft. TBG
Serious question other than Ashley's soundbite, and the media claiming it's happening via their sources, have we seen any genuine interest? iirc it was SSN that originally broke the news, with the rest of the media jumping in on it and confirming it with their "sources". After that things went pretty quiet and it wasn't until Ashley's recent interview that things started up again, with a lot of the media claiming to already know. So why weren't they reporting it earlier?

Dr.Spaceman
Nobody knows a thing about any of it - there's literally no point in debating it if you're not prepared to accept that 99.99% of discussion is going to be completely baseless guesswork. So why weren't they reporting it earlier? Pretty much every NE journalist and fan group have been told by either Kenyon or Kenyon's people that they've been pursuing a deal since the end of October. Those that claimed to be ITK on here (Minhosa) and Twitter (Black cloud) back then were reporting it, but understandably no one listened. Others are ITK now but it has more attention because Ashley referenced it in his interview. As far as journalists not reporting it goes, the only person I've seen mention that is Luke Edwards who said he sat on it because he'd heard it all before, but that Ashley's interview matched up with what he'd been told. I don't there's any doubt whatsoever that the interest is real tbh. If only that actually meant anything though.
TRon
Pretty obvious that if Ashley was really wanting to sell he could have done so by now, there have always been interested parties if the price was reasonable. Ashley doesn't really want to sell though, so unless someone is prepared to pay a big premium over and above, then it's unlikely any agreement will be reached until he's truly had enough of it. Kanj
Depending on the source of the capital you're going to have longer lead times based on customary time-frame for deals. US based money generally takes 30-60 days for diligence, It sounds like this is a 30-day one. I've never seen a situation where one has to show proof of funds to get into a data room once signing an NDA. I've never looked at any deal that way. But MA is fucking weird, so.... The big premium bit isn't actually in the valuation itself i don't think. With the TV deal in place £300m doesn't sound astronomical for a big PL club. The problem is that the squad needs about £100m worth of investment at least, the stadium needs sorting out, the training ground needs updating etc. So the next owner is effectively paying around £450m for the club, which is way over the odds for a perennial relegation scrapper. Ashley doesn't see it that way though. He specialises in running scruffy threadbare, warehouse-type businesses on a shoestring and doesn't see anything wrong with it. He knows exactly what he's doing, he's also well aware that any prospective buyers are going to factor all of those post-purchase investments into the cost. But he doesn't really care if the prospective buyers are put off and pull out, because as already said, he doesn't really want to sell unless someone pays over and above. I would imagine Ashley sees potential investors / buyers as merely pesky tyre kickers whom he might as well get some milage out of whilst he`s at it. As much as I felt quite optimistic this time around its becoming more likely that this is another bi-annual blag aimed at getting cheap in the impending transfer window as usual. I would also endorse the view that this may be the last time he`ll be able to do it without the whole situation getting out of hand following another relegation & Rafa leaving.
