toontownman
Like so many others in this squad, we are finally starting to see him realise some of that potential. Still sometimes the silly mistake and misplaced pass but some of his box to box play today was world class.

Excellent game. Agreed. I'm excited to see how he develops over the coming years. I am not sure he'll ever have that level of ability re Carrick in regards to setting a tempo and controlling the flow a game, but it's great to see such a massive improvement. Onwards and upwards for him, hopefully he stays clear of injuries.
AyeDubbleYoo
He’s nothing like Carrick. Had a great game today though.
MrRaspberryJam
I mean he's been very good but let's not compare him to Carrick shall we.
Holloway
More like a Nicky Butt (before he came here)
Wilson
Brilliant today he was. He was playing 2 roles at times, covering for Willock's laziness in the first half.
Kid Icarus
That was possibly the best performance I've ever seen from Longstaff, he was everywhere.
ponsaelius
Harsh on Longstaff to compare him with shite like Carrick.
NEEJ
Can we assume he's good enough to be a midfield mainstay yet?

Completely different player. Actually underrated. Just needs to speed up his decision making at times, he was as good as Bruno today and some of the stuff he does goes unnoticed. I'm not huge fan boy but it's nice to see him do well and he gets far too much shit for a young, local lad who has not missed a game getting us to 4th. Pata
Many said he was garbage in the first half due to that one bad pass in the first half. Thought he had a really strong 90 minutes and even Bruno was nowhere near as good as he was.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one, I think he's very similar If he smartens up his passing and occasional dithering on the ball we have a very good player on our hands
Kanj
Easily becoming the player that Rafa brought through - superb today and he’s crucial to the way we play.

Nothing like Butt imo.

Skeletor
I quite like him tbh. He has his token bad passes every game but his overall game is really good.
Kanj
Everyone has bad passes every game. Just find it odd that Longstaff’s get called out every time.
wormy
He's had his ups and downs, seems very much a player who can do a job when coached by someone who genuinely coaches and for that reason I'm more than happy to see how much more he can progress under Howe. Maybe it's not too late.

Almost the entire team did in the first half. There was a spell both teams just kept giving it away to each other.

Tiresias
It's he's not some high quality possession recycling midfielder, and that is one position we are lacking in. Bruno has the technical ability to do it but (rightly) wants to be creative and attacking. Part of me thinks the perfect midfield for us would be a really cultured passer who keeps the ball, so we have a destroyer in Joelinton, a creative player in Bruno and a metronome a la the classic Pep Barca midfield of Busquets (Joelinton), Iniesta (Bruno) and Xavi (to be found) mould. Because we don't quite keep the ball to that level Bruno becomes more defensive and plays deeper which feels a bit of a waste, but in actual fact what we have now is working brilliantly (for the record, yes i do think that barca midfield is the best there has ever been( Edited October 29, 2022 by Tiresias
Newcastle Fan
As long as he can keep up this work rate the rest will come.
Dokko
Really hard to say who he is or who he could be. I'm just very happy for the lad its clicking for him after where he's been due to Bruce. One thing Ashley never understood was the importance of a top tier manager and their impact on a team, and that opinion alone has ruined so many careers. Longstaff was on the cusp, I pray he pulls it back round and is here for the ride.
Cronky
Five minutes into this game, I saw this lad take the ball out from defence, exchange a one two with a team mate in a narrow space near the touchline, and then bang in a first time shot from 40 yards out, right out on the touchline, which only just missed. It it had been on target, the keeper wouldn't have saved it, and he would have become a You Tube legend. The transformation in this lad's mentality is amazing. His skill has always been there, but he's adding confidence and imagination.
HawK
His chance creation / attacking passes are very, very good. Just needs to be a bit more aware of his surroundings prior to receiving the ball to help reduce the moments he gets caught in possession.
