Merino under Rafa able to build a team adding players like him to other areas he eventually got to do with Almiron and Dubravka who without we’d be fucked, and we’d have ended up with some team IMO. We looked so good going forward last year just by adding Almiron and he had somehow made Hayden and Longstaff work and we looked good centrally down the team even with certain limitations. Now it’s just a jumbled mess like under Pardew but with lesser players who without the ‘keeper and Almiron in particular and the pace, drive and threat of the French lad when he does play, even keeping to Rafa’s defensive strategy as best as possible, they’d be cut off at the bottom.
