What an utterly shit signing he was. Pointless.

Absolutely thoughtless. The majority of signings under Bruce didn't have a semblance of strategy or imagination, just plugging gaps with hit-and-hopes. Hendrick, Fraser, Krafth, Carroll, Joelinton, Bentaleb, Rose, Lewis, even Willock post-permanent - all utterly, utterly shit signings who did fuck all. Only the miracle of Eddie Howe changed things for the better in a handful of cases.

4 players out and not a single fee for any of them

Pretty sure we would have got a fee of some kind for Woodman mind. But yes - in the grand scheme of things probably nowt.

Bentaleb. Forgot about him. Utterly shite like. Worse than Hendrick, if only just.

He's probably the only deadwood that contributed absolutely fuck all, so he's the only one I'll not have the slightest bit of respect for. Glad this waste of space has finally fucked off.

That era of loan signings was end of days/life support days of the last ownership like.

Had long since given up any semblance of a transfer policy once we had other teams beating us to young Ligue 1/Eredivisie bargains. Instead just looking to plug gaps in the short term any which way we could while giving Championship players long term contracts to avoid needing to replace them.

Weirdly quite liked Lazaro out of those January signings, mind. Thought he had some decent displays despite limited appearances.

 Perfectly put.

Was still weird as fuck though, seeing as either side of that particular January we had the best part of £60million spunked on Joelinton/ASM and then £20million on Wilson. Signings entirely out of keeping with the frugal policies of 2008-15 & 2017-19, and the otherwise 'life support' (as you put it) policies of the last couple of years.

You'd go out of your mind trying to figure him out. Regardless of the details, the common denominator was that it was always flawed.

Yeah the signings of ASM and Joelinton in particular were bizarre in the context - splashing 60 million on two players (although offset by Perez sale for half of that) after Rafa spent 2 years begging, borrowing and stealing.

In hindsight, and after long journey in Joelinton's case, they've both been solid investments overall and show the value of actually spending money on talent of the right age.

Aye, I thought he might be steady at best. There was literally nothing about him, and he even pushed for a permanent move to us the following summer.
